18 weeks. Can't feel movement

When did you all feel movements? This is my 4th pregnancy so I thought I'd feel baby moving a bit sooner. But nope. Midwife says he is very low down and on the scans he does Bury himself into the bottom part of my uterus so maybe that's why? He's very active on scans when he does move but I cannot feel him. I am riddled in anxiety during this pregnancy ( previous losses) so not feeling him isn't helping. I'm sure I was 20 odd weeks on my others before I felt movements but as they were over 8 years ago I cannot remember for certain.

I didn't anything with my second till about 20 weeks, I think I had an anterior placenta which affected it.

Twiklo · 02/05/2024 23:23

I felt my first baby move quite late. Turns out I had an anterior placenta.
He's a healthy and very hyper 2 year old now!

DC1 karate kicked me in the ribs constantly from 17 weeks and DC2 seemed to be facing the other way and I felt kicks many weeks later and fewer overall movements.
DC1 never slept as newborn and DC2 was blissfully happy only waking to feed.

I drove myself crazy with dd as it was 22-24 weeks before I properly felt her! Try not to worry about it too much! Dd2 I felt about 14 weeks - must just have been in a different position!

I didn’t feel my baby move until 24 weeks and he was also a very active baby on every scan. I did worry and the anxiety of reading people feeling theirs move earlier was awful but he’s fit and healthy and now 5 weeks old.

mommyduties · 03/05/2024 06:01

I can understand how the anxiety must be building up for you not feeling any movements yet. With my second daughter, I also didn't feel anything properly until around 20 weeks. It turns out I had an anterior placenta cushioning the kicks, so I couldn't feel them either.

LizzeyBenett · 03/05/2024 06:17

Didn't feel anything until 21 weeks but hospital said not to panic if I didn't feel baby until 26 weeks

Louise0808 · 03/05/2024 06:51

Thank you for all the replies. I havent been told where the placenta is so I assume they may in 2 weeks on my 20 week scan. The midwife told me to start looking for a regular pattern in movements and I thought how? I cant feel him yet. Maybe she assumes i will feel him early like I assumed because he isnt my first. Thank you for reassuring me. I did feel a bit silly because I know this is still very early but I needed others experiences and opinions. X

Felt very small flutters around 18/19 weeks but not every day. First kicks around 24 weeks again not daily.. regular movement around 28-29 weeks. I'm 33 weeks now and feel movement throughout the day but there's no pattern to it at all. I have an anterior placenta also.

WithOneLook · 03/05/2024 10:10

It varies so much I'd try not to worry. Both my pregnancies have been anterior placentas but first time around I didn't feel anything until 23 almost 24 weeks. This time I was convinced the placenta was at the back as I've felt bubs since about 15/16 weeks but nope. Midwife says there is no rhyme or reason just depends on bubs position

PineappleBella · 03/05/2024 11:57

Hey! I don’t want to read and run, this is my 6th baby! I’m 18 weeks pregnant also, and I haven’t felt baby move. I have an anterior placenta so that could be why, my little one is also very low! I thought the more babies I had I would feel the earlier but to be honest there’s been no pattern to the amount of weeks I’ve felt with each of my babies, my daughter I felt from 16 weeks, my 5th baby I didn’t feel until 22 weeks! Dont worry mama it’s okay ☺️

Louise0808 · 03/05/2024 19:19

Thank you everyone. I feel alot more at ease now, especially knowing this is fine and quite normal. I shouldn't hurry it along really because I do remember the kicks to the ribs not being very nice haha but here I am, waiting for the kicks. X

My midwife said they only expect you to feel patterns of movement by 24 weeks. I’m 18 weeks and had a few twinges but nothing else (first pregnancy though)

Happyharper · 04/05/2024 17:17

I was just about to post a thread about this! I'm also 18 weeks and felt nothing. FTM. Would feel so much better if I could but these posts are reassuring! It's hard when you have 8 weeks between the scan so you have no idea what's going on.

Louise0808 · 20/05/2024 15:48

Thought I'd give a little update incase anyone else stumbles about this post with the same worries. I've started feeling him move the past week and today found out I do have an anterior placenta aswell. So that will be why the movements aren't as easy to feel. Thank you everyone for calming me down when I needed it x

If also helpful - I'm 20 weeks. Just had my scan and the baby is moving and kicking like mad but i can't feel it! Also found out I have an anterior placenta so that might contribute.

Enough4me · 22/05/2024 21:03

Great update OP, best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy.
