Breech Baby 37 weeks

Hi all!

I had a c section with my daughter a few years ago, as she was measuring large and her head was slightly tilted meaning they had to use forceps to get her out.

I am 37+2 with My second, and they have been breech since the 20 weeks scan. Both the consultant and midwife have said he’s very happy and wedged in and think it’s highly unlikely he will move, so we have booked a section in a few weeks.

i just wondered if people’s breech c section experiences were the same as a head down baby section?! As in did it take longer or was the scar larger etc due to them pulling them out bum/feet first?

Also if anyone has any experiences of a second elective recovery? Not sure whether to expect it to be harder as it’s the second, or easier as I’ve experienced it before!

thank you so much in advance for any thoughts on this!

I had an elective c section for breech baby - my only so far so I can only comment on that part of your question - but I don't think it makes a significant difference re size of incision or time it takes. They still need to make room for getting hands in, stitching all the layers etc even without getting the whole baby out, so I don't think the size of the incision changes too much.
Mine was very fast. Baby was out in about 5 minutes (we were only on track 2 of our playlist!) and then they were maybe 40 minutes sewing me up afterwards.

It sounds like a good choice for you if your baby was wedged the way mine was, so just sending wishes for an easy recovery and a lovely gentle ELCS!

No discernible difference . Both babies exactly the same weight too. Both were only quite relaxed despite one being an emergency (waters broke then realised breach but no contractions). Both were done with epidurals and husband was there. Recovery was good both times but belly does look worse after the second but probably because I'm overweight and second baby. My blood pressure did go rather low second time so needed some sort of IV fluids but can't remember what they were (not saline).

I have no experience on breech but my second pregnancy I had an ELCS (first baby EMCS) and recovery was absolutely fine. It was still very painful for at least a week post surgery, but by the second week I was moving about as normal.

I've had 2 ELCS. DS was a breech and in a really weird position, so they had to haul him out bum first. Definately felt more tugging and pulling than with DD. Recovery was about the same with both. I found it very easy and my scar is tiny.
