im 33 weeks I got up off the toilet and slightly scratched my side of bump on the side of the door where the lock part retracts (on the metal lock part) in and out it left a 1cm small red mark for about 5 minutes then went
im not in pain the mark has gone and it didnt hurt, just worried as it left a small mark, not the beginning of a bruise or anything
am I being over dramatic

just a very paranoid ftm :)

Nothing to worry about although I was pouring hot soup from saucepan and splashed my bump. The birthmark on ds's arm my mother in law insists is a result of the slight scald on my bump!

I wouldn’t have thought so but call the triage line and ask for advice, they won’t mind and it will put your mind at ease.

FTMaz · 30/04/2024 22:46

Hi
in the nicest possible way yes you are. Baby is very well protected in there, don’t worry :)

mollyfolk · 30/04/2024 22:48

Are you rhesus negative and asking if this incident would require an anti D shot?

In my experience they err on the side of caution with the anti D shots. I’d call and see what they say.

redddssak · 30/04/2024 22:49

yeah I am rh neg and baby is positive

I really dont want to call the urgent number so I would wait to call the non urgent advice number tomorrow anyway but just was curious

OP posts:
redddssak · 30/04/2024 22:50

I can ask a midwife on an online chat tomorrow morning

I’d call then. It’s probably absolutely fine but my doctor told me they give them for most little bumps ect…. Yours sounds very minor but there is no harm in calling.

redddssak · 30/04/2024 22:52

mine dont seem to give them for little things, I rang them once I got into bed like from standing and fell into bed on the side of my stomach and rang they said no

thing is it wasn't really a bump more of a scratch to the bump on the door lock

FTMaz · 30/04/2024 22:54

I’m so sorry I complete misread this! I thought you were just generally asking if you should be worried about scratching your bump! Please ignore my previous response as I have no idea x

redddssak · 30/04/2024 22:55

no worries @FTMaz

I could ring someone now but would be the urgent number ?

OP posts:
redddssak · 30/04/2024 22:55

Absolutely not no. I'm rh neg and had two rh positive babies. I had so so many anti d shots across two pregnancies but all of them were for vaginal bleeding and proper trauma to the bump.

It wouldn't have even occurred to me to worry about a scratched bump as there's no possible blood transfer from it.

The anti d shots absolutely bloody hurt as well. Avoid unless really needed

pastabest · 30/04/2024 23:04

Plus if you are 33 weeks you should have had one at 28 weeks which is supposed to see you through until the one you have immediately after birth. If you have had that they probably won't give you another anyway

mollyfolk · 30/04/2024 23:05

You also have a 72 hour window so asking online in the morning is fine.

I do think it sounds fine but it’s not silly to ask tomorrow.

yeah I ill leave It till tomorrow anyway, I will have probably rationalised it in my head then anyway and forgot about it as it realistically was a light scratch I think but if im still not sure ill ask on the online chat or ring the non urgent !

This is not correct. I had a shot at about 30 weeks and had to have others before the baby was born following certain incidents eg vaginal bleeding and trauma to the bump. They tell you to call if certain things happen and they may well give you an extra.
