Hi, bare with me because this is a weird one.

I had a couple positive tests at 10/11/12 dpo, they all were faint not really progressing so I figured it was a chemical and didn't test again. AF due 4 days ago, had some brown spotting, really light so decided this morning I'd test again. To my surprise I had a fairly strong positive, I was pretty excited only to go to the bathroom an hour later and find bright red blood.

I'm under the impression that this is a chemical, though I've never had a line so dark before during a chemical.

Did anyone bleed during pregnancy and eveything was ok?!

Yes, I bled when I was having DD and she was fine.
Your line looks good. Not like a chemical.
I hope things turn out okay for you.

larcarter · 30/04/2024 13:45

@TheShellBeach what was the bleeding like? If you don't mind me asking.

This feels very much like AF minus just without the cramps.

TheShellBeach · 30/04/2024 13:54

Like the beginning of AF.
It went on for ten days and I was convinced I was having a miscarriage. But I never lost my pregnancy symptoms.

TheShellBeach · 30/04/2024 13:54

I didn't have cramps either.

It’s so scary seeing blood especially in early pregnancy :( thought I may be able to offer some reassurance! I am currently 33 weeks pregnant after 3 miscarriages- shortly after I took my test during this pregnancy I had bright red blood thought I miscarried actually went to GP who said I had aswell without actually testing anything, I even wrote a post looking for reassurance aswell! I never came onto a period and tests continue to actually get darker days later. I continue to have and small slight bleeds 6,9,10 weeks all scanned and ok and even more little bleeds 21,22 weeks still all is ok!
So your bleed could have been implantation bleeding- with 2 of my early miscarriages I always had consistent spotting and lighter test. This healthy pregnancy was the only one to have bright red blood for implantation and to be ok.
Hope this offers you some reasurrance. I would call EPU and ask for a scan! Xx

Ive been bleeding pretty heavy, like your standard heavy period. Took a test this afternoon guessing it would be lighter after two days of bleeding, yet the test is darker than yesterday. Honestly don't know what to think.

I wonder if you've got a sub chorionic haematoma?

That's a very good positive test.

TheShellBeach · 01/05/2024 18:35

Can you get hold of a digital test?
And is the bleeding slowing down at all?

larcarter · 01/05/2024 19:02

@TheShellBeach it's not as heavy as it was this morning but still medium flow, Im going to try and get hold of a digital tomorrow morning. I never had any bleeding with my first pregnancy. It's such a large amount of bleeding that I can't imagine still being pregnant.

But with previous chemicals my tests are almost stark white after a day of bleeding. This just seems darker, really confusing!

I had a light bleed at 4+2 weeks in my second pregnancy so I had a scan at 6 weeks to check everything was ok. I then bleed bright red at 11 weeks which was just awful when they scanned me baby was fine I has a haematoma which had caused the bleed.
it’s so scary for you but that test looks really good x

larcarter · 01/05/2024 19:55

@Vicmck

Yeah I agree the test looks great which is why I was so shocked when I went to the loo. It's a pretty heavy bleed, definitely wouldn't call it light or spotting. It's just like my regular period, minus the cramps!

UnicornRainbowSky · 01/05/2024 20:19

I had exactly the same. I got a bfp, started bleeding the same day so figured it must have been a chemical. I had a SIX DAY heavy bleed. Tested again to see if the line had faded only to find it stronger than ever. I went to a&e because I was worried and when they scanned me they could see a tiny dot which they said looked like a yolk sac. I had four more heavy bleeds in the next 6 weeks, including cramping and braced myself for a miscarriage each time (had scans every time it happened). My baby turns one next month 😂
I had a subchorionic hematoma that was confirmed at 8 weeks and had gone by my 12 week scan.
Of course nobody can guarantee that your pregnancy will be successful but this kind of thing seems pretty common. That doesn't mean it isn't mega stressful! Wishing you all the best and sending baby dust x

VikingLady · 01/05/2024 20:36

Both pregnancies I had what seemed to be a slightly lighter period when I'd have expected af to turn up. My mum did too with both of her kids. It seems to run in families.

Best of luck xx

larcarter · 01/05/2024 21:00

@UnicornRainbowSky thank you for giving me some hope🥺how many weeks would you say you were when you had the first heavy bleed? I'd be around 4.5/5 weeks. This just feels like my usual period if I'm honest, only slight difference is the blood seems to be mixed with a lot of EWCM (so sorry for the tmi) but then sometimes it's just red blood. It seems to be dying down a little now, haven't had any cramps either. Did you just call the EPU when you experienced the bleeding?

Beka245 · 01/05/2024 22:47

I had spotting at 5 weeks that turned into red heavier bleeding for a few days i was passing some small clots as well. Was convinced I was miscarrying, I phoned my local EPU who scanned me at 6 weeks, confirmed the pregnancy and saw a heartbeat. I was in complete shock! They also found quite a large haemtoma which was causing the bleeding. I'm now 9+3 and at my most recent scan on Monday they couldn't find the haematoma, and said that my body had reabsorbed it/it had bled out.
I'm still getting some mild pink/brown spotting on occasion.
I would definitely contact your EPU, wishing all the best, it's a very stressful thing to go through in early pregnancy when everything is so uncertain. ❤️

larcarter · 01/05/2024 22:56

I'll give EPU a call in the morning. Thank you for giving me a little hope!🥺 bleeding has subsided a lot. Really hoping for the best🤞🏼you're right, it's so stressfull!

Good luck, hope it all is ok for you x

larcarter · 02/05/2024 09:28

Did a digital this morning which came back 1-2, I should be around 5 weeks now so digital is behind. Still a pretty strong line this morning but not any darker, I think it's a chemical, will just keep checking to see if the test gets lighter over the next week or so🥺

@larcarter ive heard digitals can be quite unreliable. Have you got a scan today?

I’ve had brown bleeding in and off for a couple of weeks (6 weeks now, originally thought it was my period) and the odd fleck of red. This is how my miscarriages started so I’m a bit worried. I have a scan booked for Tuesday so just trying to tell myself there’s nothing I can do, will just have to wait.

are you on any treatment at all? I’m on low dose aspirin and progesterone, which I believe is why my son is here (did it last time). I’m worrying it might not be enough to save this one though x

larcarter · 02/05/2024 09:57

@Peonyyyy

Hi, no I haven't booked a scan. With the amount of blood I'm having, I'm certain this is a chemical in my case so I'm just going to see how I get on over the next week or so, if my test is dark in afew days then I'll have a scan, if the tests have lightened then I know that it's an early loss💛

Fingers crossed all goes well for you! Brown blood is old blood, which can just be usual spotting in early pregnancy. Wishing you the best!💛

TheShellBeach · 02/05/2024 10:04

I just don't know what to say. Your line still looks a lot better than it would if this was a chemical.

Can you persuade your GP to take blood? See what your hCG levels are?

TheShellBeach · 02/05/2024 10:07

And you're right - generally with a chemical, after two days of bleeding, the test line is barely visible.

TheShellBeach · 04/05/2024 16:05

How are you, @larcarter ?

larcarter · 05/05/2024 20:19

@TheShellBeach I'm doing okay, I decided to go to A&E yesterday as I was still bleeding fairly heavy and tests still showing positive, was a little worried about an ectopic. They took bloods and my HCG was still elevated but as it wasn't in the 1000s the doctor actually said she thinks the HCG is left over from my previous chemical back in March, which I just don't see possible as my tests were ridiculously faint and stark white after a day of bleeding. I did explain that to the dr but she was adamant🤔dr requested for the EPU to call me at some point over the next few days just because my HCG is still elevated to see wether there is anything they want to do... I ultimately left feeling quite confused but will see what the EPU has to say. Doctor was very confident that it is a loss either way though, so it's a pretty rubbish situation! Thank you for checking in🤍

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 05/05/2024 21:58

I think the doctor's wrong.

I don't know what the answer is here, but you need a scan.

And I'm really sorry you're still going through this.
