Braxton hicks all day - 35 weeks and feel rough

I’m at that stage where I’ve had enough and counting down the day until little one is here, but lately the symptoms are kicking my ar*e.

Sleep has never been great but I’m now waking up once an hour and hips are in bits. I’ve been waking up at 5am every morning and having to go rest on the sofa as weirdly that feels comfier. This morning I had the worst tummy ache though - been to the toilet (TMI) and I’ve still felt so bloated all day. On top of that, I’ve had braxton hicks all day. Was sick twice yesterday and nauseous today off and on. Do not want nausea back, it’s been horrific this pregnancy!

Any tips on how to stop the BH? I’ve heard drinking more water?

Also, does this mean baby might come earlier? Although I’m very much in the ‘I’m over this’ stage of pregnancy, I’d like to give birth as close to 40 weeks as poss.

(Appreciate this sounds a bit ranty sorry, feeling sorry for myself 😂)

I'm 37 weeks and am very much done. Nerve pain in my bum making walking difficult and BH getting stronger. It really won't be much longer.

In terms of your hips, with my first pregnancy I really suffered so this time I've been going to a private physio (last appointment this week) and although it's very gentle stretches and releases it really has helped.

@Jonesy88 oh I feel your (literal) pain! I’ve been doing some stretches to help my groin as that decided to be painful as well but the stretches definitely help!

Are your braxton hicks painful? Mine are just achey but after a full day of it I’m fed up!

Do you feel like you’re close to giving birth? I’ve had a vibe I won’t make it to my C-section date (end of May) but might just be me wishing away symptoms!

There’s no harm in getting checked over, particularly your blood pressure if you are feeling nauseous. I’d give your midwifery team a ring.

I think I'll make it to the bank
hol but probably not long after. My BH started as random little aches in different parts of the bump, but now are full on waves. Somewhat painful (as in you know they're happening) but I know from before not like a true contraction pain. They're too sporadic too. I find lying on my left side helps.

In terms of stopping BH, yes drinking water is a great idea. I'd also try a nice warm bath (not super hot!) - chucking in a good amount of epsom salts might also help you with the aches and pains.

BH don't usually last all day though. Have you timed them? Is it possible you're in the latent stages of labour?

Turns out chilling out and hydrating has done the job - feeling loads better and Braxton hicks stopped around an hour ago.

I was going to call the midwife if it didn’t abate by 7.30 but going to run it by them at my appointment on Thursday.

Great tip about the bath too - think I’ll do that regardless of BH or not!

Oh great I'm glad they've stopped! I know you'd rather they be BH. I was just concerned because your post really reminded me of myself a few months ago sitting round going 'God I've had these BH all day, I'm so fed up how do I make them stop!' and spoiler... They did not go away and they weren't BH 😂

cosylife · 28/04/2024 22:12

@LavenderSweetPea oh thank you - I’ll definitely take them more seriously in the future! I think I’ve pushed myself to be too active and be on top of general everyday life lately so feel like my body is telling me to chill out 😅

I feel your pain OP

Im 36 weeks and has hit me like a ton of bricks today. Been feeling really queasy, Brixton hicks, baby hasn’t stopped moving big uncomfortable movements, and I just feel so emotional and afraid of what’s to come all of a sudden. 3rd child so I know the drill, but it’s just all so frightening. And as much as I’m done with it all, I’m also not ready!
