Positive tests with the copper IUD

Hello, I have recently tested positive on about 4 pregnancy tests. I was really shocked as I am on the copper IUD( ive had it for about 4 or 5 years). The reason I tested was because I was spotting very light pink for a full week and no period. Anyways now I am concerned what's going on as I am bleeding abit more and I have a physical job working in a school kitchen and when I'm working I'm feeling a bit dizzy a really bad headache at the back of my head. I have this headache for 3 weeks tbh as I have been complaining everytime I do the housework before i found out this suprise. It's a throbbing headache at the back of my head. Which I have never experienced before if I'm honest. I have a scan appointment booked in today and I can't wait to see what is going on as I am so scared as I was told that there is an increase likelihood of an eptopic pregnancy when you get pregnant with an IUD. I am feeling something is going on as I woke up at 5am with pelvic pain and a bit more blood today :( anyone had a similar experience with the copper IUD and can give me there stories?

I fell pregnant with a copper IUD 11 years ago. I didn't keep the baby, but as far as I know the presence and subsequent removal of the IUD didn't cause any issues/damage. I also had bleeding during that and my current pregnancy, which was unrelated. I know a few other people who've gotten pregnant with IUDs and had healthy babies.

Sending a big hug and positive wishes, hope you get on ok today xx

I fell pregnant on the copper coil about 27 years ago.
He is 26 now. They found the coil embedded in my placenta.

I fell pregnant on the copper coil. Apparently my coil slipped and embedded into my cervical lining causing me to bleed for 9-10 weeks straight, I was initially being checked for Endo and after an ultrasound they saw my coil slipped. I only tested as my friend joked 'hope you're not pregnant'. Turns out I was - though I must have gotten pregnant whilst bleeding (only had sex once in that period due bleeding so must have gotten pregnant via that 1 session).

Unfortunately I lost the baby around 7/8 weeks.

HOWEVER - the midwife explained my loss was likely because of how long the bleeding occurred before I got pregnant - the lining wasn't thick enough to sustain a pregnancy - and that if i'd gotten pregnant with an IUD in situ, then chances are baby would have been fine.

Hopefully your bleeding is just normal early pregnancy bleeding and all is well! Sending hugs xxx

So I have been to the scan and they said they can't see anything for definite on the transvaginal scan. They said it might be an ectopic pregnancy but they can't be too sure. They are going to record my hcg levels by blood today and then repeat again in 48 hours. They said you might not ever be able to see the pregnancy so it's a bit strange... x

Make sure you find out where the coil is. Mine was embedded in my bowel after perforating my uterus.

They put it down to PUL pregnancy unknown location. The IUD was in place but low down I asked for them to take it out and I feel so much better now it is out. I haven't had any pain since it has been out. I am thinking this is leading to an ectopic pregnancy as surely they would have been able to have seen something in the womb? They said they seen a bit of a mass on my left fallopian tube but can't be too sure if it is anything. They spent so long I was starting to get pains and even got a second opinion. So I'm guessing this could be a failed pregnancy but I'm not fully bleeding yet.

I just wanted to let everyone know it wasn't good news. I had a phone call this morning saying my hcg levels are extremely high and to come back straight away so I let work know and went up. They did another blood test and 3 nurses and a doctor looked on a scan to find the ectopic pregnancy. The blood test came back higher than yesterday and because it was so high I needed surgery for the ectopic pregnancy. They have taken my left fallopian tube away. I didnt plan to get pregnant but i feel a bit sad i lost my fallopian tube just lowers my chance of pregnancy in the future if i ever choose to have anymore kids. I do have 2 girls. So i am already blessed. I've just had the surgery and now recovering in hospital for the night. Its been a confusing day and its been hard to process it all at once. Thank you everyone. I thought I would update incase anyone else goes through similar xx
