Gestational Diabetes - felt judged by pharmacist

I was just into the pharmacy to get my GD prescription. I felt a bit judged by the pharmacist. It's a tiny town (circia 1000 people) so she knows me.

She made a big deal that I had, had it before and that I am now at a much higher risk of getting Type 2 diabetes. The midwife already told me that. When I got vitamins from her when I was pregnant with my 1st child she went on about not gaining too much weight 'she sees people gaining loads and bringing issues on themselves the whole time'

Not pregnant by hba1c is around 28. I am in the just overweight category so can work on that. But in general I lead a healthy enough lifestyle, eat a mainly balanced diet, exercise, don't drink or smoke. My mum is type 1 so I am more disposed.

It's like she was making it out having GD was something I did, and I think if I do end up with type 2 she'll judge that too!

Your pharmacist is a jerk. they should not be commenting at all. and GD has nothing to do with your weight and more to do with genetics/the placenta etc.

Did the Pharmacist actually say anything unprofessional this time or just say about the risk of T2 diabetes in the future?

I think if they did then it's worth feeding back to the pharmacy manager, or just gojng to another pharmacy

Since Half of women with gestational diabetes go on to develop type 2 so it's a very clear indicator

And being careful of your weight will reduce the risk

@SouthwestSis she owns the pharmacy. She kept going on about enjoying pregnancy and how amazing she found it as well. I currently feel like I've been kicked by a horse in the vag! She's good but she's a bit judgy in general I think.

@midgetastic ya it is something I have high on my radar, I had my hba1c checked obvious after the last baby was born. But I've had it checked since as well, I'm going to check it checked annually with the GP.

Weight/ life style is a massive contributing factor no denying it so I will be conscious of. Some of it is predisposition as well, with the family history both me and my two children will be higher risk.
