6 week scan not showing what I’d hope

Hello guys, just wanted too come on here for a bit of advice or anyone’s experienced the same sort of thing, yesterday I was supposed too be 6 weeks, I went for a early reassurance scan, all they could see was a fluid sac, no yolk sac, they’ve given me 3 things it could be, either too early- ectopic or it’s at the late stages of miscarrying, for one I’m not bleeding, I’m still having all symptoms and very very strong positive tests. I rang early pregnancy unit this morning and im
going in tomorrow for another scan, but the lady on the phone said private scanners are not allowed too say that fluid is a gestational sac. Has anyone has similar experiences? I miscarried November last year at 5w3d so im
very anxious.

Were you scanned by a qualified sonographer?
Not all private scanning companies employ qualified sonographers so you should speak to a company that does as they will be able to advise you as a qualified medical professional.
Some of the staff working at some of the private companies have only had 3 weeks training!

This happened to me at 6 weeks, went back at 7 weeks and seen the heartbeat flickering away of my now nearly 10mo. These were NHS scans I had, due to bleeding (why I was bleeding was a mystery btw). Wishing you lots of baby dust ✨ 🤞🏻

Hi Op,
sorry you’re going through this you must be very stressed!
I had a number of private scans by trained sonographers, however the clinic was owned by a doctor of foetal medicine and if there was anything concerning he would book an appointment with you to discuss. As someone had already said these clinics are often ran by people who don’t have a clue and they cause so much worry and upset through incorrect information. Please get your NHS scan and then you will have correct information and support.

Early scans are very hard because baby goes from nothing to something in a matter of days. If implantation took longer than average then you may not see them yet. All you can do is wait and see if they develop.

I had a scan at 6 weeks and they put me back by like a week. I was a complete mess as I'd had 2 miscarriages prior to that. Baby is 4 years old now and my pregnancy was totally fine too. I completely get the anxiety of pregnancy after miscarriage, it consumes you. I hope you get good news at your next scan 🩷

GrumpySock · 22/04/2024 12:36

I would rescan in a week. It can be a blighted ovum. In this case the sac grows, you have pregnancy symptoms albeit not very strong, strong lines on tests but the baby is not developing. Miscarriage is usually delayed. I had it several times unfortunately, hope it is not that and you will see a healthy bean in a week.

SouthwestSis · 22/04/2024 12:39

Sorry this is happening, this is exactly the reason that I don't think places should even offer reassurance scans at 6w, all it takes is a later than expected ovulation and then you've got the exact opposite of reassurance even if nothing is wrong.

I know how it feels to want that reassurance though, I'm 10w pregnant now and had a loss at 6w last year, managed to wait until 7+4 to have a scan which was lovely as we got to see a heartbeat.
To anyone thinking of booking a scan at 6w I would say try and hold on a bit longer!

This is why I wish private scan places could only offer scans once you’re at least 7 weeks; ideally 8. Hopefully EPU can be more helpful - they will likely ask you to go back in a week unless you have bleeding
