Hi all, I'm 10 and a half weeks pregnant but for weeks now if I walk "too much" my lower back begins to hurt. I then lay down and get up and it's almost crippling to walk! I'm worried as I have had 2 early miscarriages and I remember back ache being a sign but then I read that it's Normal, any help/advice would be much appreciated! Is it a sign to slow down? It really doesn't take much for it to start hurting

Hi op and congratulations on your pregnancy and sorry to hear about your mcs

I have similar every now and again, 2 children and ELCS later. I went to physio who suggested an MRI which showed I have two bulging disks at the base of my spine, physio sorted it out. Two years later it came back so went back to physio and it's sorted again. Like you I struggled to get up from lying down and once I was up I was literally hobbling about until it had loosened off.

I was told the cause of mine is likely general wear and tear, lifting DDs in and out of the bath/car etc, two pregnancies close together. Might be worth seeing your gp?

Physio is a good shout, you can often self refer through your GP surgery.
Is this a new thing? Were you previously quite active before?
Is raised BMI something that could be putting your back under strain?
Rest is not great for a bad back, better to keep up gentle movement to avoid stiffness, swimming is good for that.
