Botox whilst pregnant

I've recently found out I'm pregnant which was a happy surprise but now I'm panicking as I had Botox at the start of my pregnancy when I didn't realise. I must of been about 6/7 weeks at the time.
Has anyone else accidentally had Botox whilst pregnant and was everything ok? I'm really panicking.

Me. It was fine. Child is now 3 and thriving x

It shouldn't pass to the placenta

vincettenoir · 10/04/2024 22:31

I am guessing it's one of the many things they don't do testing on pregnant women with. So although it cannot be verified that it's safe during pregnancy it's unlikely to cause any harm.

SwordToFlamethrower · 10/04/2024 22:51

It is meant to be dangerous to a developing baby. Make sure you mention it to your midwife. They will be vigilant when they do tests and scans.

You know botox is short for botulism right? Which is incredibly harmful.

CountFucula · 10/04/2024 23:02

Rubbish. It won’t cross the placenta - but even if it did it would matter because the placenta doesn’t take over until week 8/10.
Mention it to put your mind at rest but don’t worry.

ATJ · 10/04/2024 23:22

Thank you for the replies, that's put my mind at ease slightly. I'll mention it to my midwife and just praying everything will be ok.

And has no wrinkles!

Except that's not what it's short for...

I'd mention to midwife, and obviously don't have any more. There's no evidence either way on it.

There's no evidence for this. OP please ignore this scaremongering reply. Botox is localised, it will stay in the muscle its injected into. As pp have said it's not recommended because they can't do studies on pregnant women, but that doesn't mean it will harm baby in any way. It's a really common treatment, thousands of women have been in your position and had it before they found out they were pregnant. So we would know if it was associated with birth defects. Enjoy your pregnancy!

Bells3032 · 11/04/2024 10:52

There's no evidence either way to be honest. it's a very toxic chemical but it generally stays localised and that early nothing really crosses the placenta so the likelihood is its fine. Even if it wasn't likely result would be a miscarriage very quickly after.

Either way there's nothing you can do about it now. baby is ok so far so try not to let it worry you too much

Yes I was the same!

I took a test on the Monday which was negative so had my Botox. By the Thursday my test was positive! I explained it to the doctor who was doing my Botox (she knew I was trying to conceive) and said that anything around 4/5 weeks gestation wouldn't harm. My MW also agreed when I spoke about it.

Chat to your MW if you want extra reassurance but I wouldn't worry too much. You'll be undoing all your Botox handy work otherwise 😉

I was a little bit further along than that 😩 I must of been about 5 weeks then went for a top up at 7 weeks. I didn't realise I was pregnant for ages because periods can be unpredictable and tests came up negative at first.
