Can you still lose weight while pregnant?

In such a conflict with myself at the moment as i really really want to have a baby like yesterday! But I am on a weight loss journey at the moment. Overall goal is to lose 10 stone and so far I have lost almost 6 since my WLS in October last year so I am hoping to shift the other 4 stone before the end of this year.

However I really want to start TTC sooner rather than later as I do have PCOS so I'm aware it may take me quite some time to actually fall pregnant. so my question is, is it still possible to lose weight while pregnant?

Also I am terrified that I'll gain back all the weight I lose once I get pregnant. So if people could please share how much they gained/lost during their pregnancy. And if you did gain did you manage to lose it again after?

Well done on your weight loss, that’s amazing.

Given that you underwent major surgery six months ago, I’d definitely speak to your doctor before TTC. Speak to your surgeon if possible. Even if it takes you a while to get pregnant, you want to be sure that your body’s fully healed first. The last thing you want to do is put yourself/your baby at risk.
Good luck. 💐

Depending on the type of weight loss surgery you had, you may be at higher risk for nutritional deficiencies and a small baby (which has further risks). Are you still under the care of a bariatric team? If you are, it would probably be a good idea to get some preconception advice to make sure you're in a good position for pregnancy. Your surgery means the impact of weight loss on your pregnancy might be quite different to someone who hasn't had surgery.

I did lose weight during pregnancy but it's because I was so sick. NHS is very clear that intentional weight loss is not advised.

Also, congrats on your loss so far!

I'd speak to someone about TTC in regard to your recent surgery, and how to manage a possible pregnancy. Get that advice first. You shouldn't be intentionally losing weight during pregnancy - I did lose a bit during first trimester due to lack of appetite but it reversed once I was in second trimester. There's no reason that you should put on excess weight during pregnancy, but it's very important to have a healthy, balanced diet.
