Awful pain 36 weeks

36 weeks tomorrow and have been having horrible pains since Saturday. Went into maternity unit Saturday night for it but said cervix was closed tight. I’ve had 2 prev sections but never experienced labour as both were done early. I’m in so much pain still it feels like intense period cramps mixed with tightening. Does this sound anything like labour contractions?

Have you had Braxton hicks contractions before? Just wondering if this pain is different/new?

frankieandbean · 08/04/2024 21:29

Sure sounds like it. Does paracetamol help?
keep an eye on any pain coming from your scar and if in any doubt just go in. I went into labour at 36 weeks with my 3rd after 2 previous sections and ended up with another emergency as my scar wasn’t holding well. The pain felt like burning. Don’t want to scare you, sorry 😔 good luck, sounds like baby on its way x

Edited

Yeah I’ve had them in all 3 pregnancies but they were on/off, this is pretty much pain consistently all day

Thank you! No they gave me codeine too which isn’t helping and hot baths don’t make a difference, it’s awful 😅 can I ask how can they tell the scar isn’t holding well? Did they have to scan you? X

In that case, can you call your MW tomorrow and see what they say? Or I wouldn’t be worried about calling the maternity unit again.

Yeah I’ll call her in the morning! I have an appointment anyway on Wednesday morning so was seeing if I could hold off but I’m worried somethings happening and it goes 0-100. I know it’s probably not realistic but still would rather be in the right place if it did

Ah I feel for you. Are you planning a VBAC?
Yes they scanned me, was like a bladder scanner on the ward rather than a sonographer room etc. but even so, the pain was so intense on one end of my scar that the doctor just wanted to get me to theatre, it was only because they had it there to hand that they scanned me. Once my son was born they confirmed it had started to open internally on one side. xx

Have you been tested for a UTI recently? My last test was fine when dipped but when they sent it off it showed I had an infection and that was causing me a huge amount of pain. They don’t all show up with the dip test.

Make sure you get a thorough antenatal check just in case (and I'm not saying it's likely) it's something more serious like an abruption. I don't want to worry you and as I said it's probably not something serious but it won't harm to be checked over properly.

I had this a few weeks ago and was indeed in labour. It took days to get to 7cm, ended up having to have help as everything stopped and me and baby were utterly exhausted. Similar gestation

@parmavioletsss how are you doing?
