Hi,

Has anyone had their first midwife appointment recently done over the phone?

About how long did it last & what sort of things were discussed please?

I had a first phone appointment about 6 weeks, it was before my booking appointment and was very quick. She just confirmed some details, gave me info on vitamins, booked in my booking appointment and set me up on BadgerNotes app. There was a questionnaire on the app which I filled in before the booking appointment and that saved a lot of time.

I would be surprised if your booking appointment is on the phone as they check blood pressure, take bloods etc.

Thank you I thought it seemed strange I rang when I was 3 weeks pregnant and now I'm about 9 weeks going by the nhs calculator and this is as far as I've got with them so I'm not sure when they'll book me in for bloods etc which I was expecting by now they haven't got my address so no appointments can even come through the post to me yet.

I would make sure you ask them about booking your 12 week scan too, as if you want the screening there’s only a limited window that they can do it. In my area the midwife has to arrange the appointment.

If you rang, are you definitely on the list? I had to book with local team online and fill in a booking questionnaire. I had an introductory phonecall at 5 weeks just to say hello, and have booking bloods appointment at 8 weeks for which I have to fill in another questionnaire (which I currently cannot access... because I let the link expire because I was too superstitious to fill it in too early... 🙄!).

I had a booking appointment by phone at about 10 weeks, I hadn't pre-done a questionnaire, so it was the midwife going through medical history etc, so late about 45 mins, then she sent me to the hospital the next day for bloods and to be weighed. She arranged for the 12 week scan after the phone appointment.

Yeah I should be on the list because it’s the local midwife team I spoke to after asking the doctors because they don’t deal with any of that. They just said to have my weight to hand when they call and nothing else was mentioned. I’ll ask about the 12 week scan tomorrow. Thanks
