Lletz, prem prevention, sex

Hi all, I'm 13 weeks and have been referred to prem prevention at 16 weeks as I had lletz treatment about 10 years ago.

I keep reading that you shouldn't have sex if you're at risk of premature birth, which I may be. Does this mean I shouldn't have sex? Is non-penitrative sex OK?

TIA

I think the advice if you are at risk of preterm labour is to avoid sex, even non-penetrative or masturbation because an orgasm can also trigger labour.

@Mrsttcno1 this was my thinking. Wonder why they haven't informed me of this.

@Sara1988 Maybe because you haven’t been seen by the preterm department yet? It may be something they mention in more detail there. Or maybe it depends on how far along you are, and what they deem the level of risk to be for you personally? I know my friend was at risk of preterm labour and she was advised to avoid all sex/masturbation as orgasm could bring on labour, but maybe that isn’t for everyone?

I was referred to the pre term clinic due to a lletz but when they pulled my colposcopy notes they were happy with my cervix length so was discharged

still hadn’t had sex at this point as was waiting for results which i got back at 13 weeks

however I had 2 random bleeds at weeks 11 and 12 , no cause for it , no haemotoma and put it down to random bleeds possibly from a sensitive cervix from the increase in blood. I’m now 23 weeks and still no sex , I couldn’t deal with the anxiety that sex can trigger bleeding especially more with a sensitive cervix

@excitedmama2be I suspect I'll be discharged too, only had one treatment and no bleeding or spotting at all so far.

I'd just abstain until your appointment, I fell pregnant 9 months after lletz and sex made me bleed, I did have cervix issues so abstained for the pregnancy, second time around cervix was less of an issue, but because I had cervical ectropian which would bleed if I had sex I still abstained. I wasn't told at any point I couldn't have orgasms though, just to avoid penetrative sex

They will wanna check how much you had removed during lletz too , if it’s under a certain number you may require a stitch
