Actually I'd use the castor oil to wheel my office chair and then have DH run round the streets till I went into labour rather than drink the stuff. It tastes horrid!

(pushing the chair obv).

Right.

Pooing can start labour.

Basically your bowel and your womb are touching each other. If you have diarrhoa it can spark contractions (been there done that, not much fun at 24wks)...as the contractions of the bowel can irritate and cause the womb to contract.

I had an irritable uterus and contractions would be triggered by diahrroea, farting, a full bladder & urine infections (same idea blader touches womb).

Try sex and those raspberry capsules you can get at Holland & Barrett (stronger than tea-leaves!) I started the above with avengence at 37 wks and went into labour naturally at 38wks.. definitely sounds more fun than castor oil!

rdk - maybe you've aleady had baby cohosh is a herb that is used in a tincture form to bring on/maintain contractions, tastes pretty disgusting though!

A sweep is when the midwife tries (!) to get one or two fingers inside the cervix and basically swishes it around, tying to detach the bottom of the bag of waters from the top of your cervix - it doesn't break the waters just kind of stirs things up at bit. Your partner could just have a good fish around up there - sometimes that's enough

hopefully unnecessary suggestions!
