Reaction to patch test for balayage

Hello,

I’m in my second trimester and wanted to have balayage and a toner (as opposed to the full head tint I was having pre-pregnancy) so I went to a salon for a patch test.

I left it on for around 1 hour 45, which was an hour longer than I was supposed to and it stung wiping off. Got distracted and forgot to wipe it off! Today I’ve got dry skin where the test was applied behind my ear. It’s looking slightly pink and is a little tender.

I’ve not had a reaction to a patch test before. Is this just a pregnancy thing?! Hoping it doesn’t mean I won’t ever be able to have highlights or balayage again.

Not sure if it’s because I left the dye on too long, or whether I could try another salon who use a different product. The test was for Davines colour, which I’ve never had before. I usually have L’Oréal.

I'd ask them for another patch test and remember to remove it when you're supposed to. It might be tender just from leaving it on too long but it's not worth the risk.

Chances are you may have developed pregnancy allergy to it
i had a repeat patch test for mine and left on 3 days and had no issues

Thank you both! I did actually go back this afternoon and have another patch test inside my elbow and this one has been absolutely fine, although did seem to rub off a bit on my jumper. I will go back again before the appointment though and get another one behind the ear to be on the safe side.

@excitedmama2be was your repeat after your pregnancy or still during it?

hopefully it’s just a combo of slightly more sensitive skin and leaving what was quite probably bleach on for too long.

my hair dresser knew i was pregnant before i was... purely because while pregnant i simply could not bear the pain of the colour on my head!

I’m 21 weeks pregnant so I had my patch test done last week when I had. Blow dry and booked in for full head in may
