7 week scan - worried CRL is small

Hello,
I’m very anxious after two early losses.

I had a 7 week scan (although I think I may be 6w6d) and we saw a heartbeat but the CRL was just under 7mm.

Im almost sure of my dates as I was taking fertility mediation so had to track ovulation.

The sonographer did end up taking measurements from my belly as apparently my uterus was in an awkward position for the transvaginal, so maybe this contributed to slightly off numbers!

Anyway, I had expected the CRL to be 9-10mm by this stage and I’m concerned that 6.8/7mm is a bit small. Had anyone experienced similar and gone in to have healthy pregnancies?

Thank you x

@Carlotta27 Hi, I had a TV scan yesterday at 7+1 since LMP. The CRL measurement was 7.79mm and I was dated at 6+5 which makes sense as I ovulate on CD20. Sonographer didnt give any indication that that was small or anything. Where have you read that it should be 9-10mm? Got me worrying too now! 🙈 xx

Oh no @Sgj91 sorry to have got you worried! I think I read on the NHS website that a baby should measure about 10mm but that may not have been CRL

i did do a worry Google and come across this report which makes our measurements seem more normal :)

@Carlotta27 Phew! Glad to see that, I’ve been looking back on my previous pregnancy reports to see those measurements to compare 🤦🏻‍♀️
Like yourself, I’ve had two losses and finding the anxiety is crippling this time. Forever checking if I’m bleeding. Do you have any more scans booked?xx

Carlotta27 · 22/03/2024 20:09

@Sgj91 Im really sorry if I added extra anxiety. It’s so tough after loss as I think our minds are wired to expect the worst!

The kind sonographer could tell I was anxious so booked me in again for 9 weeks, so two weeks’ time. She told me to not worry about it and distract myself but that feels near impossible!

Do you have any more scans before the 12 week mark? X

@Carlotta27 Oh don’t be silly! It’s just a shame that this is the reality of pregnancy after loss, I feel like I’ve lost the joy of pregnancy this time 😩 but early days so hopefully I find it again!

That’s good! 2 weeks will be here before you know it. I’m going back to EPU next Thursday for a scan to check the growth. I’ll probably book a private scan at 10 weeks too as I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks last year so need that extra peace of mind!xx

Best of luck for Thursday! I do have to keep reminding myself that after a heartbeat the stats should be on our side now…

It really does take the joy and excitement out of early pregnancy and I’m not sure at what stage I’ll let myself relax and believe it will happen. I’m so sorry for your loss at 10 weeks, my latest loss was 7 weeks and in some ways i felt fortunate that it was a blighted ovum and there wasn’t a baby inside it to loose.

I hope you manage to find a distraction over the weekend! X

@Sgj91 hope you and the little bean are still doing well! I had a nine week scan today and apparently was measuring a day ahead - so it goes to show my panic about being a few days behind was likely unfounded and I hope it didn’t panic you. It’s so easy to worry about every detail! X

@Carlotta27 Aaah amazing news, so glad everything is going well. It’s so surprising how much difference just a few days can make in these early weeks! I had another scan on 28th and was measuring exactly as I was expecting which was a relief. Doesn’t stop the anxiety but still nice to have positive news. Thanks for the update, really pleased for you xxxx
