Need some reassurance

Hi all,

I need some reassurance to be honest. I had a miscarriage back on the 31st January (6w6d) and found out I’m pregnant again on the 11th March. I went to the EPU as I hadn’t had a period in between, so had no idea how far along I was. I had a scan on Friday 15th, but they couldn’t see anything other than my womb lining had thickened, so I had a blood test to test my HCG. Had a repeat blood test on Sunday 17th and my HCG had doubled, so had another scan on Wednesday 20th where they could now see the gestational sac and yolk sac and I measured 5 weeks. Everything was as it should and I was sent on my way to wait for the midwife to book my booking appointment.

I’ve had a bit of brown when I wiped (nothing much at all) but today, I had this and I’m terrified that I am about to miscarry again. This entire time I’ve known, I’m terrified to wipe for fear of seeing blood, and now it’s come true. Is this normal?

Hi OP, firstly I’m so sorry to hear about your past experience.

Nobody here is going to be able to give you the answer sadly. Some people do experience some bleeding in early pregnancy and it can be totally normal, for others it can be a sign of things going wrong. There’s just no way of knowing unfortunately. There doesn’t look to be much there on the tissue so if I was you I would just keep an eye on it & try to take your mind off it as best you can. I’ve got my fingers crossed for you x

Thank you so much Mrsttcno1. I really appreciate you replying. I’m so so scared of losing this one too. I went to the toilet again after and had about the same amount again. I’ll do what you said and keep an eye on things x

Hi can I have a question here?
( Sorry for the pic )

Have I miscarried? 5 weeks pregnant. 4days spotting(light Pink). No severe cramping. I'm a first time mom and I don't know what it's look like.

Thank you.

Mrsttcno1 · 22/03/2024 17:06

@Marialigaya hi lovely, nobody here can tell you whether you have or not, you should call your local EPU for advice x

Newmum0120 · 22/03/2024 17:09

Hi @Marialigaya I agree with Mrsttcno1. I would get checked out by your local EPU. They’ll be able to provide the best advice and may do a scan to check on things. I’m so sorry you have to go through the worry x

I don’t think this is very helpful for the OP
she is understandably stressed so why post this here?
Not very sensitive

@Newmum0120 so very sorry for your previous loss and also for your worry now in this new pregnancy. Early pregnancy is so nerve-wracking - especially after loss.

Unfortunately as @Mrsttcno1 said, noone can really give perfect reassurance as spotting and bleeding in pregnancy can go both ways. One thing I would say though is that if you've previously had a loss, you should speak to your EPU about any bleeding/spotting as they should prescribe progesterone for you. There is info about this on the Tommy's website - they even provide an info sheet you can take to your care provider as it's been a relatively recent change to guidelines that not all practitioners have caught up with.

I unfortunately had three losses last year. With my first one (a MMC) I had had some spotting and didn't follow it up as thought it was just one of those things. My second loss was a CP and then the third was a pregnancy of unknown location that ended at 7wks but had never really got going (HCG monitored with bloods throughout). Neither of the second two involved any spotting. I then unexpectedly fell pregnant again last November. I've had three instances of spotting/a small proper bleed with clots but am currently at almost 20wks. I did request progesterone after the first bleed which they gave. Not sure if it made a difference but it certainly didn't harm!

Best of luck to you and hopefully this one is a sticky bean 🙏🏼🌈 I must say, the spotting you've shown doesn't look to be much and is very mixed with CM. Hopefully just cervical etc. But do get checked. It's not silly to ask about it. Xx

hi @SnookyPook, honestly thank you so much for your reply and I’m so sorry for everything you’ve had to go through.

I’m so glad to hear that things are going well with your current pregnancy (despite the bleeding). That’s such a good point in terms of progesterone, I’ll follow up with the EPAU on Monday to get scheduled back in. It’s extra terrifying as my partner is away for work so I’m all alone!

Thank you so much for the well wishes. I hope things go smoothly for you for the rest of your pregnancy.

That’s exactly it! I cropped the picture as it had my leg when I was in the toilet cubicle 🤣 but it seems to have made it difficult to see how much it is. If I was to estimate, it was no bigger than the size of my thumbnail. It happened again shortly after on my next wee, but all my subsequent bathroom trips (oh the joys of needing to pee constantly) there has been nothing further at all. I’ve not had any cramping or anything.

x

@Newmum0120 thank you!

Gargh why do these things always happen when our DPs are away?! I think it's all sounding pretty good for you so fingers crossed! Keep me posted! ☺️

Newmum0120 · 26/03/2024 17:53

Hi @SnookyPook sorry for the last response, it’s been a time! Things were okay until today. I had a bleed with a clot and thought it was all over went to A&E as I called EPAU when it happened and they said to.

After a blood test and a scan, they confirmed all was okay with baby, they were measuring right and they saw a heartbeat. They’ve prescribed me progesterone so I’m on that until 16 weeks.

My HCG hasn’t completely doubled, but it’s over 7000 and they said not to worry at all.

@Newmum0120 oh I'm so glad to hear it! Great news! Glad you got the progesterone too 👍🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

@SnookyPook Thank you so much hun. It was a worrying day all in all, but couldn’t have asked for a better outcome considering the circumstances.
