Progesterone for spotting

Hi everyone, yesterday I had my first ever BFP in a natural pregnancy. For context: DS was conceived in 2021 via ivf and I had a miscarriage following second IVF cycle last summer. TTC naturally for 6 years so was just completely shocked to see the 2 lines yesterday and have subsequently done another 4 tests (all positive).

I had some spotting after BM yesterday despite the BFP and was expecting to get my period as I usually have some spotting a couple of days before it comes. Thought this may be chemical as I’m technically only 4 weeks today going by the date of my last period, but my cycle varies in length each month by a couple of days.

So in short, I panicked a bit when I saw the spotting and as I had cyclogest left over from my previous ivf cycle which ended in MC, I used one of the pessaries last night and again this morning in an attempt to stop the spotting as I have read that this is often prescribed when there is vaginal bleeding / there has been a previous MC to try to sustain the pregnancy/ lining of the uterus. I have often wondered whether low progesterone has prevented a natural pregnancy for me in the past.

Im now paranoid that a. I’ve interfered with nature and if it was going to be a chemical pregnancy, the progesterone I’ve taken will make me sustain the pregnancy symptoms and delay my period coming… and b. If I stop the cyclogest now the dip in progesterone levels could cause me to miscarry what could have otherwise been a normal pregnancy.

Does anyone know- Are there any risks of me continuing to take it/ how long I should continue it/ if it won’t make any difference for me to stop?

I feel like I’ve got myself in a bit of a pickle 😬

Are you continuing to have spotting?
I started spotting with my first ectopic but that turned into proper bleeding after a day or two (few years ago now).
It could be something or nothing. With this pregnancy I had bleeding at about 5/6 weeks and we went to A&E. They did a scan and could at least rule out an ectopic. I then had another scan at my OB/GYN a few days later and we saw a heartbeat. Nobody could explain the cause of the bleeding and the spotting tapered off after about a week. It's an ivf pregnancy so they monitored my progesterone levels anyway and mine tend to be rather low. I was prescribed Cyclogest right from the start. I then added Prolutex as well.
If you've got enough progesterone left, I'd suggest you keep going for now and get booked in for a check up as soon as possible. Get bloods checked (hcg and progesterone) and perhaps they can at least see some of the pregnancy already. If it's an mc, the progesterone won't necessarily prevent it. I've had my period turn up despite being on progesterone after previous transfers.
Good luck. 🤞

Thank you @Busyhedgehog i really appreciate your response, and sorry to hear of your previous experiences/ loss.

There’s been no more spotting today although the horrible melted cyclogest pessary that I put in last night had a slightly pink tinge to it when I wiped this morning. I will keep taking it as from what I’ve read there’s no harm. My GP said they don’t do HCG tests on the NHS but that she could book me in for a scan at 6.5 weeks so I’ve asked for that and if I get any more spotting il try to find a private clinic to do the blood test…

I conceived naturally just before I was due to start IVF and was prescribed Cyclogest 400mg twice a day until I was 12 weeks due to a previous MC it's safe but I wouldn't use it and then just stop you need to speak to a GP or midwife .
