Hi
i had what looked like a tiny bit of blood on a tissue following sex with my partner so I was referred for an early scan today. I thought I was 7 weeks pregnant today, based on the date of my last period, However, the scan didn’t show baby, just the yolk sac. It was reassuring that all was where it should be (not ectopic) but the nurse said i’m measuring 5 weeks 6 days and this is the reason baby isn’t visible on the scan. I don’t see how it can work out so differently to my dates! Has anyone else experienced this? Based on these figures I ovulated about 3 days after my period ended which is bizarre!?!

Remember that baby is tiny at the moment so tiny differences in size translate to big changes in date.

I was measuring three days behind at my 6 week scan. By 12 weeks I was 3 days ahead.

TwylaSands · 14/03/2024 18:58

How long are your cycles normally?

Anne4678 · 14/03/2024 19:04

@Isitisit thank you.
@TwylaSands about 30 days sometimes a day over that.

what are you basing your dates on?

Anne4678 · 14/03/2024 19:20

@TwylaSands the date of my last period which was 25th of jan. I’m usually on for about 5 days.

But you're cycles are longer than 28 days so you will ovulate later. Try not to worry

Rosesanddaisies1 · 14/03/2024 20:31

Pregnancy dating usually assumes 28 day cycle so if yours is 30/31 days, you have to account for that, plus you may have implanted later. And the measurements at that stage are so minuscule, it’s hard to be exact.

Anne4678 · 14/03/2024 20:32

@TwylaSands I just went into worry mode! You’re right, yes. Thank you.

I used to ovulate right after my period finished, discovered that when i started tracking for my first baby! Has changed now but just so you know it can 🤗 also symptoms do taper off at this stage so try not to panic 🤗

If they say you're currently 5+6 then you would have ovulated (roughly) around 17th Feb, not 3 days after your period ended. If your last period was 25th Jan and cycles are 31ish days this isn't too far off what you'd expect. As others have said if you ovulated a bit later and/or implantation took a while then the dates sound reasonable. You might find dates shift a bit at the 12 week scan when things are a bit easier to measure too.

Anne4678 · 14/03/2024 22:14

@cheesychips15 thank you for taking the time to figure that out for me. It all makes sense now and I feel so reassured!!!
Thanks again.

Yes, what @cheesychips15 said!

And a bit more hope for you - I had an early scan at 7+2 due to previous losses. Baba was measuring 6+2 but with a heartbeat. I'm now 18+4 and baby has consistently remained on that trajectory, one week behind. However, I know for a fact I ovulated 3-5 days later than usual in my cycle (wasn't tracking that month but only DTD CD17/19 and usually ovulate CD14~). Combo of later ovulation and implantation no doubt pushed it back a bit but all is looking good 😊 Good luck!

Was everything all right, @Anne4678?

BumbleB1 · 19/04/2024 16:09

Hi, sorry to jump on this post but I’m going through something similar and could do with some reassurance and/or a realistic expectation as to what might be happening..

First day of last period was 24th Feb, cycles usually 29 days however this was only my second period following an early miscarriage in December (not sure if that changes things).. I had a loss of symptoms about 2 days after finding out I was pregnant, these have gradually increased and I now have a lot of nausea. I’ve had a small amount of blood and booked a reassurance scan for supposedly 7w+3, however baby showed no heartbeat and was measuring 4w+6.. they deemed it “inconclusive” as the baby is measuring under 7mm so they wouldn’t expect a heartbeat at this stage, but would mean my dates were off? Or that baby has stopped growing 💔

My gut tells me this is bad but my heart is holding on hope. We have another scan 30th so I’m keeping everything crossed but the wait is killing me.

Has anyone been through similar? Or can offer any advice?

Thank you ❤️

TheShellBeach · 19/04/2024 16:17

@BumbleB1 I think you'd get more advice and support if you started your own thread.

Having said that, it doesn't sound hopeful, I'm afraid.

You're 8 weeks now. You've had some bleeding and the pregnancy is measuring small. Unless your dates are really out, of course.

Hi sorry to jump on your post but I’m going through something similar and worrying a lot.. can I ask how you’re getting on? I have my second scan on the 30th so keeping everything crossed but all the responses I’ve had so far have been that it’s likely not good news ☹️ thinking of you!

Hi there.
The OP had a miscarriage at the beginning of April.
(I did an advanced search)

TheShellBeach · 22/04/2024 12:11

But I'm still keeping everything crossed for you, @BumbleB1

MrsSlocombesCat · 22/04/2024 12:16

When I was pregnant with my first I thought I was due at the end of November because I hadn’t had a period since February. Imagine my shock to be told at a scan (it was 1979 so wasn’t as routine) that I wasn’t due until February 11th! I never did find out why my period stopped and then I ovulated again in April.

Oh, sad to hear this 😢

thanks for keeping everything crossed for me still, I’m not sure how I’ll cope if it’s bad news again but I know so many people go through it so I will somehow ❤️
