Hi all
looking for some advice reassurance, so i am 27 weeks pregnant. Just had some bloods done which showed my iron levels were low and b12 also low 107 was my level for b12 normal is between 150-1000.

im absolutely panicked as I’ve googled risks and it says neural tube defects ect 😩 I’ve had bariatric surgery in 2018 so it’s not uncommon to not absorb tablet forms but I’m just so frustrated that it’s took this long for them to test me and now I’m blaming myself for not pushing it more. Spoke to my go who said he would seek advice from obstetrician regarding b12 injections.

in just so anxious my baby is going to have some kind of abnormalities 😩 I’ve had 20 week scan and all was fine but I’m not reassured by that. If anyone has been through similar please let me know xxx

Hey I had one of the lowest levels of b12 my nurse had ever seen at 39 weeks pregnant, I felt like I was dying I know that sounds so dramatic but honestly I was fucked! So they did bloods and round the above I had a crash course of b12 as was so close to giving Birth and wouldn't have had the energy to do it. I had 6 injections in a week and instantly felt alive again.
I never read about risks etc and my baby was perfectly fine x

Push for the injections asap

I have a b12 deficiency too and I’m getting 6 injections over 2 weeks - probably because I’m nearly at the end (37 weeks). I’d push for the injections too theyll make you feel much better. All my scans came back normal and they’ve never mentioned any concerns about the baby so I wouldn’t worry. Just get your energy levels up.

Neural tube is already formed by now so if nothing was picked up on your scans, then low b12 won't be causing any damage to the tube currently if that makes sense. So please don't worry about abnormalities
