was making a salad sandwich ( craving have them twice a day ) im 26 weeks, I washed the veg but cant cant remember if I rubbed the cucumber to wash or just rinsed it but I was slicing it up and ate a slice then saw the end part I left had black on it looked like poo or soil ive got in my head its poo and im going to get toxoplasmosis
I feel absolutely sick I couldn't even eat my sandwich in the end as I feel so so bad I could've ingested that
I feel absolutely distraught with myself I could've accidentally harmed my baby now is there anyway to know if I would've got Toxoplasmosis or does it not have symptoms

I really wouldn’t worry, unless you feel unwell. All supermarket veg is washed. I rarely wash veg unless visibly dirty

mrsed1987 · 10/03/2024 16:40

I''m 35 weeks and haven't washed any veg or salad unless it's been visibly dirty so I think you'll be fine

Lillers · 10/03/2024 16:41

Hey, I had a similar scare earlier in pregnancy - called 101 and spoke to a consultant (as this was before I had met my midwife) and they basically said that if you don’t get sick, you’re fine. Maybe call your midwife just to get some reassurance - I believe they can do a blood test to check for toxoplasmosis if you’re really concerned.

eddiemairswife · 10/03/2024 16:41

For goodness sake calm down.

redddssak · 10/03/2024 16:43

thats reassuring I wont call unless I feel unwell I just feel stupid, as I haven't brought cucumber in ages as even after I washed the last one there was black bits on it but didnt eat it so wasn't an issue
now I finally purchased one again I feel like I didnt wash it enough and just ate it without looking but it was only a slice of it so hoping there wasn't any on that part

Do you have health anxiety, OP?

You don't need to contact the midwife or health professional for food poisoning reasons but it might be wise to make contact re your anxiety.

BrutusMcDogface · 10/03/2024 16:44

Calm down. You’re fine.

I do actually yes, it was basically gone before being pregant but now its started up again in pregnancy as I wouldn't want to do something wrong to affect an innocent baby if that makes any sense

redddssak · 10/03/2024 16:45

but now I wouldn't care if I got sick where as before I would, but now I feel worried as im pregnant and can affect a baby

I would have a chat with your HV or GP about your anxiety, as it could ramp up further when the baby is born and it isn’t going to be good for you.

As for the cucumber it’ll just be a bit of soil, so don’t worry about it.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 10/03/2024 16:48

Have you ever know anyone, pregnant or not, get ill from eating cucumber?

nope.

this is not the thing you need to worry about.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 10/03/2024 16:49

I am pregnant with my third and never wash fruit or veg. You’ll be fine. I would speak to your midwife but about your anxiety rather than the cucumber. She might be able to suggest additional help.

redddssak · 10/03/2024 16:50

honestly my anxiety is very well managed and has been for a few years now, but this has seemed to of triggered that irrational anxiety I used to have before, so maybe its starting up again so yeah I probably should mention it next time I see her

Bobskeleton · 10/03/2024 16:50

I wouldn't fret.

I totally get pregnancy anxiety. I get worried about small things too even third time round. However, I’m able to talk myself back around. If you already have health anxiety, it could very well start up again in pregnancy.

FloofCloud · 10/03/2024 16:56

Have you owned cats before? You'd probably have antibodies against toxo if you have.
Honestly, don't worry, your body has a way of looking after your baby, I'm sure it'll be fine! I am a bit health anxiety too and it spiralled when pregnant so try to give yourself a talking to

This. In the kindest way your worry about this is completely disproportionate.

DrJoanAllenby · 10/03/2024 18:35

I wouldn't worry, it's probably been soaked in chlorine so any chance I'd toxoplasmosis is remote.

AimeeLou84 · 10/03/2024 18:49

Hey OP. Just wanted to say you aren’t alone in the anxiety. I had anxiety before pregnancy and it’s even worse now I’m pregnant. It’s not as simple as speaking to your GP, it doesn’t automatically sort it and unless you have it, you have no idea what that person is going through. If you ever need a chat PM me, you’re not alone x

Emskies · 02/06/2024 01:03

Hey I also wanted to say you’re not alone and I feel the same! Every single thing I eat I feel pretty much sick with worry unless it came from a packet. The people on here being extremely insensitive about “levels of anxiety that are not normal” are pointless and unhelpful. Of course myself and this person know that there is anxiety and most people aren’t that worried but does saying that help or do anything? No. Are most seeking help, therapy etc - yes. So if you don’t have anything helpful to say, don’t bother at all. As someone else said - happy to chat direct to maybe help each other through it, if that’s helpful!! Xx
