How long did labour take after a sweep?

Looking for experience with ladies who have previously had membrane sweeps. What happened after you got yours? How long after did you go into labour?

I had a sweep around 40 hours ago. I've lost my mucus plus and had what I thought was contractions yesterday. But today I've felt nothing.

I think if it’s going to happen it happens within the first 24 hours.

I had 3 sweeps with no result whatsoever. I was being badgered about being induced, but instead had my waters broken. That kicked things off within the hour.

I had a sweep last week at 39 weeks and had a spontaneous vaginal delivery at 39+3. I started tightening the evening of the sweep, I'd say it definitely started things!

This wasn't what I was hoping for. I'm not due for another week but due to my circumstances I was offered an early one. This is 4th baby for me and I've only ever had water's break as I was pushing them out cx

Were your pains constant? Or did they stop and start? Xx

Unfortunately didn't work for me - had 2 and ended up induced

ChickpeaPie · 07/03/2024 17:00

There’s no evidence behind sweeps really, I think they give you a kick start if you were going to go into labour anyway

1st sweep caused contractions and then nothing. 2nd sweep I was in early labour the next day.

DinnaeFashYersel · 07/03/2024 17:29

It didn't work.

Had to be induced.

Newlittlerescue · 07/03/2024 17:32

Sweep at 3 pm, backache started at 8 pm, woke up with diarrhea/sickness/contractions at midnight, went to hospital about 9 am, baby born midnight.

Didn't work with my 4th and had to be induced 😩 so annoying as the other 3 were spontaneous

Bless you. I hope you're enjoying your lovely baby soon. Easier said than done but try not to stress out. I remember being so upset and frustrated at the time Flowers

Flopsy145 · 10/03/2024 15:46

Had it on the Wednesday contractions started Friday, but her head was looking up so she wasn't going to make her way out that way anyway 😂

AngieR87 · 10/03/2024 18:52

Good news everyone! I had baby at 5am this morning. I'm putting down her early arrival down to sweep 🥳
