HELP! Bleeding in Early Pregnancy - 4 weeks and I’m freaking out 😥

Does anyone have any POSITIVE stories re. bleeding in early pregnancy? I’m freaking out 😥

I got my faint BFP last week at 9DPO. Tests continued to get darker each day, but on Friday (11DPO) I noticed brown discharge when I wiped. This made me anxious so I phoned my GP and they said to see how I was over the weekend.

There was nothing on Saturday, but then yesterday morning (13DPO) I had bright red bleeding and then a bit of pink bleeding for about an hour. This totally broke me and I was certain I was miscarrying. I went to out of hours and he said I was still testing positive and that it could be a threatening miscarriage, but he couldn’t confirm anything.

I went home and cried for about 3 hours straight. To make things worse, every time I look at my phone, I seem to be surrounded by pregnancy announcements, including people I’m super close to. I want to be happy for them, but when you’ve been trying yourself for so long and then something like this happens, it just makes me feel numb. That sounds so selfish of me, I wish I could pick myself up and move on 💔

Anyway, I've sidetracked… I’ve not (touch wood) had any bleeding since yesterday morning and my discharge has gone back to being clear/milky. I’ve only had dull aches, no cramps as such… yet. Not like I get on my period. I am 14DPO today and tests are still dark, but I’m dreading going to the toilet and finding blood. I was absolutely convinced I’d lost the baby yesterday and have been praying for a miracle, but I don’t want to get my hopes up when my worst fears could well be true.

I’m waiting to be seen by the EPU tomorrow for HCG blood tests and they’ll be repeated again on Thursday. They said they would then look at possibly scanning me next week.

Has anyone else had red bleeding in early pregnancy? Around 4 weeks and everything still be okay?

It was probably less blood than I thought it was, I wish I’d taken a photo… but at the time it seemed like a lot. Not super heavy and long like my periods are, but like a short heavy burst (sorry TMI). Tbh, I’m not really sure what ‘spotting’ looks like but I definitely think it was more than spotting, like it was a little pool of bright red blood when I wiped and then some pink spotting after that.

I don’t know whether I should be looking for reassurance or whether I am just clutching at straws and need to just move on. If anyone is able to share their experiences, I’d be so grateful.

This is my second pregnancy btw, I have a 2.5 year old and have been on letrozole for this round of TTC as my husband and I were diagnosed with secondary infertility last year.

TIA and sorry for the long story, I just needed to get it out! x

@SnookyPook Wow, thank you so much for your message. You have no idea how much I needed to hear that and it’s not been taken nastily at all. You have such a strong and brave outlook on this process and I know you’re right, there really isn’t anything I can do and worrying isn’t going to change the outcome, only how I feel, and I too need to try and be strong. I am so sorry for your losses, but congratulations on your rainbow baby, that’s fantastic news. Thank you ever so much xx

Aw thank you. Glad to be of help. And I'm keeping everything crossed for you 😊💕

Just had the phone call I’ve been waiting for. My HCG has gone up from 920 on Tuesday to 2100 (and something) today so she was really positive about that. Pregnancy tests have stayed dark, and touch wood I’ve had no more bleeding. She’s booked me in for a scan on Tuesday, so it’s going to be another long wait until then, but keeping everything crossed and praying for some good news 🙏🏻🤞🏻 xxx

@teaandtoastfairy that's all sounding promising! 💕😊 Hope Tuesday comes round quickly for you x

rainbow616 · 07/03/2024 15:14

@teaandtoastfairy that's great news!! I'm so glad! Well good luck for Tuesday! Try and relax a bit now!! Xx

Dinosaurus86 · 07/03/2024 17:39

Sounds good to me! With my first pregnancy, I felt exactly like my period was starting, went to the loo and there was a fair bit of blood, which continued that day. Went to bed and woke up in the morning realised no blood and cramps had subsided. Think I tested the next day, around 16dpo and now he’s two years old.

rainbow616 · 20/03/2024 18:55

@teaandtoastfairy how's everything going since you last posted? X

Kyliemichelletaylor · 20/03/2024 18:57

Yes! So many positive experiences of bleeding - as in it's terrifying but the result is a baby at the end of it. I did IVf and had an early scan and found out there was a hematoma in the uterus which is super common and they said 'don't be alarmed if you bleed at some point,' so because of this I was prepared.

I'm sorry - hang in there xx

LBNM19 · 20/03/2024 19:44

Hi, I have experienced bleeding in my last 3 pregnancies every time it was down to a subchronic haematoma. I’m 30 weeks pregnant now and during this pregnancy I bled from weeks 7/8 to about week 18. I bled every day but also had heavy bleeds where I would literally be soaked with blood. It was horrible. Hope everything goes okay for you. Early pregnancy is such a worrying time.

Daffodilsarentfluffy · 20/03/2024 19:50

Any update op?

teaandtoastfairy · 21/03/2024 16:09

Hey everyone - Thank you so much for all of your messages. So I went for a scan with the EPU last week when I would have been roughly 5 weeks, and they saw a yolk sac but no baby which obviously freaked me out a lot, but both midwife and GP said this is very normal for 5 weeks gestation. They’ve asked for me to return for another scan on Tuesday when I’ll be 7+1 to see how things have progressed, so I’m very nervous for that. Touch wood no bleeding since, however I have been suffering with horrendous nausea, to the point that it’s stopping me from doing normal daily activities. Currently on cyclizine, which I was reluctant to take at first because I was scared of putting anything in my body that could harm the baby, but I was reassured by other mums that it’s safe. I don’t think it’s doing much, nor are the sickness bands or ginger biscuits etc! It’s rotten, and I’m wiped out with no energy, but trying to focus on this being hopefully a good sign, and that the nausea will eventually subside. I’ll update you on Tuesday after my scan x

@teaandtoastfairy glad you're doing well apart from the nausea which is kind of a good sign! Fingers crossed for you! X

SnookyPook · 21/03/2024 17:15

@teaandtoastfairy not too long now until next scan. Hope it provides more reassurance! Sickness definitely sounds promising but can imagine it's not at all pleasant!! Hope it improves for you as meds settle etc. always worth trying a different med if this one isn't working. X

rainbow616 · 05/04/2024 08:42

@teaandtoastfairy how is everything going? X

@teaandtoastfairy how is everything going? X

Hey! Sorry, I’ve been rubbish checking my phone. So… UPDATE:

I’ve been super poorly for the past few weeks with HG, signed off work and relying on anti-sickness meds to help me keep food and fluids down. However, this is a small price to pay for my healthy little miracle baby, who is now 10+2! I’ve had a few scans, but have been discharged from the EPU now as everything was fine. I’ve had my first midwife appointment and just waiting now for my 12 week scan to come through. Praying everything continues to go well 🙏🏻

Thank you so much to everyone for checking in on me and providing reassurance, it’s been a rollercoaster few months (or years actually as we were struggling to conceive and saving for IVF) so this is a real gift and I am just keeping everything crossed for a healthy, happy pregnancy and baby! x

Hey! Things are good thanks. I had my 20 week scan on Friday and over the worst of the HG now thankfully! Still can’t believe how lucky I am to be expecting our second baby girl, I’m beyond grateful. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this post and helped to reassure me, you have no idea how much I appreciate it xxxx
