I'm having lots of cramping after my cat jumped on me. While he's not heavy, it was from a distance and very forceful. The impact hurt me alot and im tender and cramping. I've been having lots of cramping. I wanted to speak to a midwife.
I left a message but it's to the secretary office. I won't hear from them ti Monday. They said automatic response if I need to contact a midwife cal this number.. did that and that line said contact another number if emergency. I feel lost who I'm meant to contact. Is this even classes as an emergency. Probably not. How do I speak to maternity out of hours or do I need to wait until monday

How many weeks are you?

TheSquareMile · 02/03/2024 18:59

Are you in the UK, OP?

Could you ring 111 to seek advice?

Which is the nearest hospital to you?

Dotty2dot · 02/03/2024 19:00

Does your local hospital have a MAU? Ring them of they do.

CoconutGirI · 02/03/2024 19:01

I'm 20 weeks

I could ring the emergency number but is this really classed as an emergency?

Yes I’d ring the maternity unit then if you are cramping. Better to get advice from a midwife. In my area there is a triage service & if that’s closed you just ring labour suite.

Teenagemum34 · 02/03/2024 19:03

I’d head to the maternity hospital or phone - they will have a maternity assessment unit. I went once and they were lovely, had a scan, monitored baby for a while etc.

Offredismysister · 02/03/2024 19:04

Yes it is an emergency, you’ve had an impact to your abdomen & it’s out of hours. If you are cramping then it can’t wait til Monday.

What do you think is an emergency if it isn't a lot of cramping after an impact? Just ring.

PiggieWig · 02/03/2024 19:05

Give them a call - if it’s an emergency they’ll ask you to go in and if it isn’t they’ll advise you what to do.

Sunshineclouds11 · 02/03/2024 19:05

MAU

sprigatito · 02/03/2024 19:06

Yes, definitely an emergency! You'll probably be fine, but you need to be checked over to be on the safe sound. Hoping everything is ok for you. Flowers

NewbiePL · 02/03/2024 19:14

Like others have said I would ring your MAU, your midwife should have given you all the relevant numbers to call. They can advise accordingly and let you know whether you should come in to be checked over. Hope the cramping and pain eases soon

Hostilehabitat · 02/03/2024 19:26

At 20 weeks I would call triage, at least for advice. If it’s any consolation/eases your worries I had a lot of cramping and stretching at about 20 weeks so it could be coincidence. But triage should be happy to see you.

TupperCare · 03/03/2024 05:58

How did you get on, OP?

CoconutGirI · 03/03/2024 11:28

Hi all, I was able to speak with midwife who has asked me just to keep an eye for any bleeding and if I noticed any bleeding they would bring me in for an assessment.
I haven't noticed any bleeding . I'm still having alot of cramping and lower back pain, which just seemed to occur after the incident. Midwife dosent seemed concerned but obviously I am myself since I know the force that he jumped on me with as he jumped down from the back of sofa straight onto bump from about foots length onto my belly. It wss definitely painful so I'm going to be cautious and I've booked a private scan for later this week just to be on the safe side

@CoconutGirI

Do you have someone with you so that you can rest quietly on the sofa for the rest of the day, OP? Someone who can make you hot drinks and nice things to eat?

Would it be reassuring for you to make a phone appointment with your GP for tomorrow? It's sometime possible to book these online or you could phone them when they open tomorrow.

How are you feeling now?

NewbiePL · 03/03/2024 12:25

Good luck with your scan @CoconutGirI

TupperCare · 03/03/2024 13:54

Good luck with the scan, glad you’ve been able to book that in
