NHS Screening Results

I've just received my NHS Downs and Edwards's results and they are low, 1 in 250. My previous pregnancies were in the thousands so naturally my mind is going into overdrive along with a load of emotions. I know this number is still high but I'm getting myself so worried and stressed.

Is it worthwhile booking a NIPT or Harmony test for more reassurance?

Any help would be greatly appreciated for this anxious mum! 🙏🏻

I completely understand why you feel the way you do. Of 250 babies born 249 would not have downs/Edwards so the result is absolutely in your favour.
Whether it’s worth having a NIPT is really a question only you can answer. I would have one personally in that situation but many people will tell you they would not. If you can afford it and you want it take it

I would look up your age related statistic and compare your number to age specific. If it was significantly different from the average person your age, yes I’d probably want to pay for a NIPT

@Amumof287 @IDontDrinkTea thank you for both your comments. The 250 is in relation to my age, I guess that isn't my actual number?

I have PNA so I know I'm thinking all sorts and probably jumping to major conclusions. Just very anxious.

I'll call my MW on Monday to talk through it before booking at NIPT test.

Thank you for your comments, helpful and nice to have a virtual hug to some degree.

Have they not given you a ‘score’ combining your age and bloods?

@TallulahTaboo my midwife told me that they've recently changed how they record these and the low risk '1 out of 250' means your second number could be anything over that, they just cap it now for some reason. Low risk is low risk. Not sure if that makes sense. I'm not completely sure about this but it made sense when she explained. If you have any concerns I'd give your community midwife a call and ask if they can clarify for you. 😊 Bear in mind that even quite a few of the high risk screening results end up with babies with no issues so try not to get worked up.

@User79853257976 they have yes which is significantly higher than the 1 in 250. Should I be looking at this number instead?

The results all seem more detailed than last time which is making me more anxious I guess.

@SnookyPook thank you, that's really helpful and reassuring 🤍 I'm definitely going to call my MW tomorrow just to talk me through it in more detail. Just a little overwhelming and more anxiety inducing with the numbers I guess.

Yeah that’s the actual score.
