Baby kicks from the outside already

This is my first pregnancy and I was told at 16 weeks I had an anterior placenta so probably wouldn't feel baby move for a while.
I'm now 23 weeks tomorrow and for the last week have been getting what looks and feels like mini punches to the side of my tummy button. I can see them happening too.
It usually happens when I'm still & just eaten or I'm hungry. It's a sensation I've never felt before and it usually lasts a minute to a couple of minutes. It is becoming more frequent as well.

I have really bad IBS-D anyway and have had a major flare up for the last 8 weeks so I'm unsure if it's just tummy spasms/gas or if it's actually baby. Surely 23 weeks is far too early to be able to see kicks from the outside?

I wish I could upload the video I just captured for more advice.

I’m nearly 20w and seen one of my twins from the outside kicking last day for the first time! Also interior placentas. It was a pleasant surprise as I was well prepared to not feel anything until later on but I can feel define movement for the last couple of weeks and now this🤭
it is more likely your baby doing a little dance🫶🏻

@beeboo92 it’s first pregnancy for me as well and I’m not gonna lie it’s a crazy rollercoaster of emotions, fears and anxiety🙈 I wish I could enjoy it a bit more tbh!
how are you? Have you started buying/ preparing for the baby at all?

JRTfan · 01/03/2024 15:12

I'm 24 weeks tomorrow with an anterior placenta..I have been feeling baby move since about 21 weeks and can see and feel from the outside now..not often but usually in the evening she will give some big kicks that cause my tummy to 'flicker' No real pattern for movement yet but I definitely feel kicks and movements at least 4-5 times per day so I'd say it probably is baby you are seeing.

anterior placenta and same 😊

Same with the anxiety and I'm finding my moods are very up and down now too. Also constantly exhausted. But I'm trying to remain positive and my partner is incredibly excited so that helps.
Honestly no, we've not bought a single thing as yet. We both have annual leave in April so are going to start getting the nursery ready then. Have you? X

I’ve been able to see them externally since about 22 weeks. Were you very slim before pregnancy?

CB2805 · 01/03/2024 18:14

@beeboo92 same boat here I haven’t bought a single thing yet🙈will try to start getting bits and bobs after my 20w scan, just because consultant advised me to have a hospital bag ready by 30w (due to twins etc). I really hope I will be cooking babies till 35w at least🤞
I’m having a really quite day movement wise from my bubbas and starting to unnecessary worry again😅

Everyone I've shown has agreed it's probably baby too. I just always assumed you couldn't really see them until much later. I'm not complaining though, it's a bit of reassurance that they're doing alright in there :)
But as far as being really slim, I'm 5"4 and was a UK 8-10 before pregnancy, about average build. Wouldn't say I was really slim though. I did lose a stone in first trimester but I'm back to my pre pregnancy weight now plus a couple of lbs so I think I'm mostly baby at the minute x

Anterior placenta here too which was indicated with a Doppler at 16 weeks so I wasn't expecting to feel little one for ages!
Started feeling kicks at 19 weeks, partner had felt her kick by the end of 20 weeks and she was visibly kicking by 22 weeks!
I guess we have babies with strong little legs 😂

Hotmalibu94 · 02/03/2024 08:22

And I wasn't particularly slim prior to pregnancy 😂 size 12/14 with a little bit of a belly so don't think that's a huge indicator! My friend who is very slim is coming up to 20 weeks and not having anything convincing yet!

My partner still hasn't felt or seen them in person. Every time he/she starts I tell him to look or put his hand there and it stops. It did it with my mum too 🤦🏼‍♀️

@beeboo92 yeah my little one does that too 😂 my DH isn't particularly patient to sit and wait with his hand there either, we just got lucky once and she happened to kick him 😂 otherwise she stops, and my friend's baby did too! It's like they know 😂

Starsnspikes · 03/03/2024 21:10

With my first I saw and felt the kicks on the outside from 17 weeks! Thought I was going mad but my DH saw it later on the same day too. I'm pretty slim though so I'm guessing that's why. It's definitely possible though!

Current pregnancy I started feeling it from the outside at maybe 19 or 20 weeks?

I think it's their way of playing with us and getting us ready for the cheekiness in advance x

Sounds like kicks. I had the same and one day around 23/24 weeks I realised it wasn't gas bubbles I was feeling it was kicks 😂
