I’ve got cramping and back ache after my 20 week scan today. She was pushing pretty hard trying to get clear images. Is the cramping normal?

If you are worried definitely phone your local maternity unit. A scan should definitely not cause you to have cramps and backache. Hope all is OK xx

@AngieR87 Thanks I’ll give them a call today. I keep checking for blood and nothing but Omg the cramping pain nearly had me in tears this morning. Thank you! X

@AimeeLou84 I had the exact same thing for days following my scan last week. Really bad cramping and back pain .
Sonographer pushed really hard on me too as couldn't get a clear view of baby's head due to position .
I was left quite stressed after my exam thinking how can all the pushing and pressure not harm baby.

I asked the same question and posters reassured me its normal they apply pressure and you can have discomfort afterwards but now I'm wishing I had rang maternity at the time and had it checked out. Update me please when you hear from maternity

@LiIacMoon Hey hun. I called triage as this is my first baby and I’m panicking thinking something is wrong with the baby 🤦🏻‍♀️ The lady said exactly this. ‘It can be normal and should ease off if I take paracetamol but if it doesn’t then I need to call back later.’ How long did yours last? I was in absolute agony last night and this morning!

Have you felt any baby movements yet?

Yeh thats totally normal. I just thought if you had it might offer some reassurance x

@AngieR87 Nope unfortunately not although the cramps and backache has died down a bit now. I’ve got another scan Wednesday to check her heart as she wasn’t playing ball. Hopefully that isn’t as rough!

I'm glad that you are feeling better. I would ask them to be a little more gentle this time. Baby at 20 weeks isn't tiny so I'm really not sure why she was so rough with you. Chances are it will be someone else who scans you. Do you have the badger app? Xx

AimeeLou84 · 29/02/2024 13:58

@AngieR87 No they haven’t mentioned the badger app, what is that for?

@AimeeLou84 I think it had the cramping and back pain for about 3 days then it eased. It was like the worst period pain. I could barely roll over or get out of pain for few days.
I was so anxious in the lead up to the exam and I thought I'd feel so relieved after it but I ended up coming out with more anxiety due to the severe cramping but everyone seemed to suggest discomfort is normal after it.
Hopefully your baby will be in a better position on wednesday to gather what the sonographer needs .
When are you due ? You must be due around a similar time to me. I'm due 16th July. Think they are now moving me to 17th. I'm sure dates will probably change alot going forward

YouveGotAFastCar · 29/02/2024 14:06

The Badger app is a maternity app that some hospitals use to manage appointments. If your hospital doesn't use it, it does nothing - so don't worry. It's not used everywhere.

@LiIacMoon They don't usually move your due date after 12 weeks, if you're in England. My son's due date should have moved forward by 3 weeks but apparently there's no way to make a change after 12 weeks, the size they are at that scan sets everything, so you'll likely stay the 16th July. After 12 weeks, babies all develop at different rates, so changing the due date isn't advised.

Badger app is where maternity notes are kept. Depends where you are. I'm in n.ireland and badger notes aren't something we have here

AimeeLou84 · 29/02/2024 14:13

@LiIacMoon @AngieR87 Oh yeah we just have the normal green booklet and folder here no apps lol.

@LiIacMoon I’m due 17th July! Literally day after you lol. I’m so anxious about the scan next week because of these cramps I’m going to tell them beforehand to be careful lol
