Anyone expecting a “leapling” baby on Feb 29th?

Just been talking about leap-day birthdays with my DC and debating whether being born in a leap-day would be cool or not. One thinks it’d be cool the other thinks you’d only get a party once every four years.

So I was wondering if anyone is due in the next few days and how you feel about the potential for having a leap-day baby?

(I realise this probably sounds like a journalistic fishing thread but I’m just a normal non-journalist who is curious!)

We are in the leap year danger zone. I think the idea of it is quite cool. We would just celebrate on March 1st on non leap years.

I'm overdue so potentially could have one I think it would be cool.

My due date was 26th and due to be induced as soon as a bed becomes available, so a high possibility of baby being born on the 29th.
I'd prefer baby not to be born on the 29th but of course his safe arrival is all that matters.

We would probably celebrate his birthday 28th Feb if he is a leap year baby

my due date was 29th Feb which I was excited about, unfortunately had a miscarriage.

Orangeecats · 01/03/2024 02:20

Just had my baby at 18:26! Was a planned induction so I was hoping it was going to take a while and he’d be born on March 1st. Labour was super quick and he was out within 7 hours so no chance! Haven’t decided how I feel about it yet or which day we will celebrate. It makes me sad that his birthday doesn’t exist most years!

Orangeecats · 01/03/2024 02:21

Sorry for your loss @Rosesanddaisies1 💐

Toblerbone · 01/03/2024 03:28

Congratulations @Orangeecats on your new arrival!

We had a leaping this morning. Made decision if born pre noon, we keep Feb birthday so 28th. If afterwards, then 1st March as neither of us could decide so went 50:50.

Husband is delighted, can’t say I’m thrilled my wee girls birthday doesn’t exist 75% of the time but it is special so we go with that and celebrate the gift that she is! until she is old enough to be on mummy’s side about it 🤷‍♀️😂

Bookwormmumuk · 01/03/2024 09:42

I had a leap year baby too in the end 😁

Orangeecats · 01/03/2024 09:44

Awww little leap year club! Congrats @Bookwormmumuk and @AllAboardTootToot

MadamVastra · 01/03/2024 09:46

Congrats to all you new leaping mamas 🌺

SnookyPook · 01/03/2024 09:56

Congrats Mamma's! I saw a FB post on a group about Leap Birthdays and some of them made me laugh. There were two guys on there who were celebrating 'finally' being teenagers and had '13' balloons - they were 52 😆

I think it's pretty cool but can imagine it feeling a bit weird too. I guess it makes the ones that come round on the 29th extra special!

Sorry for your loss @Rosesanddaisies1 - hope you found a nice way to honour the day for yourself 💗

CroccyWoccy · 01/03/2024 10:22

Congratulations to the leaplings! I think it’s quite special to be born on a leap day and the oddity of only having a “real” birthday once every four years is something to embrace. It’ll be a go to for all those “one unusual fact about me” ice breakers through their entire lives!

My eldest is reading a book series about children born on a leap day who have the power to leap through time - I think the first one is called The Invincible? Might be something to remember for when they’re a bit older!

And sorry for your loss @Rosesanddaisies1 - I know that the due date for lost babies can be hard, hope you managed to take care of yourself x

Sorry the book is called The Infinite not the Invincible. Might be one to look out for for their 2nd leap-birthdays!

Congratulations to the leap year babies.

My mum turned 16 yesterday, she usually spreads her birthday out over 2days because she can!

AllAboardTootToot · 01/03/2024 11:06

Thanks @CroccyWoccy, will get that ordered ❤️
