Is this a miscarriage? And what do I do?

So I found out I was pregnant a week or so ago with a positive urine test. Last night I woke up in agony (like period pain X10) and pain in my lower back. Went to the toilet to see that I was bleeding bright red blood! This was not spotting, looked like a period but brighter and heavier
Does that sound like a miscarriage? And how would I know? I have not had a baby before so don't know what I'm doing. Is this something that I should be concerned about?

Any advice would be great xxx

You need to ring midwife’s or go to a&e and get checked over I’m not sure what it means as I have never had it but definitely go get checked

Have you already been referred / self referred to the maternity unit? If so I would phone the EPU for advice asap. Hope everything is ok for you.

Phone your local EPU.

Phone the early pregnancy unit at your local hospital, but some require you to get referred so you may need to go via your GP. It depends how many weeks you are as to what they can see, but they can scan to see what's going on.

From my calculations I would be very early so I have not yet registered. Did a pregnancy test today and the line is very very faint now, so I assume this means the hormones are leaving my body?
Thanks for the advice :) xxxx

That sounds like a chemical pregnancy, OP.

I'm really sorry.

If the bleeding gets very heavy or the pain very bad, contact your GP. Generally speaking though, these early miscarriages don't need any intervention.
