How to prepare for 20 week scan?

I know it sounds like a silly question but at my 12 week scan the baby wouldn’t cooperate so the sonographer had to bring me back in at 16 weeks to get my due date. Even at my 16 week scan the baby was too comfy and wouldn’t move an awful lot and it took a long time to finally get the measurements they needed.

I have my 20 week scan this week and I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do to prepare beforehand to get the clearest possible results ie drinking something cold, hot, caffeine, eating etc?

We really want to find out the sex at the scan so want to do everything we can to ensure baby cooperates!

Hi hun🫶🏻 I experienced something similar in one of my scans and sonographer advised me to eat before scan so babies are active but not moving too much and have a sweet treat/chocolate with me in case they're sleeping. So I religiously did that before every scan also drinking cold water and never had an issue again x
hope that helps

I have my 20 week scan this week too and I’ve been told to eat an ice lolly so that’s what I’ll be doing lol

Make sure you drink 500ml-1 litre of fluid (nothing fizzy as that can obscure the ultrasound) about an hour before the scan and hold onto it! Also as a previous poster has suggested, something sugary just before the scan like cake/chocolate/orange juice.
Enjoy your scan :)

One of mine was very partial to a Mr Kipling French fancy.

With my DS I ate some sweets in the waiting room and when we had the scan he was doing back flips and somersaults 😂 He was almost moving too much for them to get measurements... So there is a bit of balance to be found 🤪

😂😂 thanks everyone! I need to pee 24/7 as it is so it’ll be a challenge to drink loads of water beforehand without peeing myself but I’ll try my best! Will definitely eat some sweets shortly before

Don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble but I had to go in 3 times for my 20 week scan- 20,22 and 24 weeks for the scan to get completed because the baby wouldn’t cooperate.
The first time I drank quite a bit of cold water which meant the baby wouldn’t stop moving.
Second time I didn’t drink but had an ice lolly and baby was fast asleep and wouldn’t move.
third time I was in for over an hour, I got up and done some jumps, went to toilet and ate sweets to get baby to move to a better position.
It was quite annoying but the sonographers were really lovely and told me not to worry. My baby just does t like to play ball!
Hope your scan goes well!
