Pregnancy Thrush driving me insane

Hi all,

I’m new here, I’m 31 weeks pregnant (first baby) and for the second time in my pregnancy, I have the worst thrush I have ever ever had. I have tried everything from no pants, to cool/ice packs, warm baths and even natural yoghurt. I have always had thrush a couple times a year and managed to treat it with the oral capsule but obviously this is not safe to take during pregnancy. Unfortunately I’m also allergic to canestan cream and pessary products which is really annoying but they make me come out in rashes/blisters.

It’s actually making me stressed beyond belief and is way worse once I settle down for bed, I’ve even tried a cushion between my legs to ‘air the area out’ but nothing works so far. I’m having to go get on the sofa because I am literally writhing around and I can’t sit still with it it’s so itchy and sore. I’ve been in absolute tears with it, to the point where I literally never ever want to get pregnant again. I know every pregnancy is different but at this point I never even want to risk this again. I’ve not slept properly in around 5 nights and I’m worried it's going to continue affecting me mentally and I’m feeling guilty for my baby because I’m so stressed.

Long shot request I know but has anyone ever experience this and tried everything or found anything other than the above that works? I’ve done some research and I’m considering asking my GP for the Gyno-Pevaryl pessaries to try, has anyone had these and they have worked? Just worried to try as I’m allergic to canestan so darent cause myself another reaction here 😞

Have you talked to GP or a pharmacist? It sounds awful :(
I know it's not of immediate help as different situations but I had a less intense case, and once that cleared up I have been taking optibac pregnancy probiotics and have not had any issue since.

Ouch, poor you. I would speak to GP and see what other treatments they can offer which aren't canesten.

I've had thrush twice so far this pregnancy, both times after a course of antibiotics. I found a prebiotic (yakult) helped ease my symptoms. I did take canesten both times but I found the thrush took longer to clear than usual, especially the first time but improved when I started on the yakult.

Not sure whether you want to try it but during my IVF cycles I had the same issue and was recommended to use Canesflor probiotics. They are pessaries and inserted once a day for a week then weekly for 4 weeks. You can buy in boots or on Amazon. Worked miracles for me! Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks so much for all your replies, I managed to get a prescription to try the Gyno-Pevaryl, unfortunately haven’t got it yet as pharmacies don’t usually stock it so they have to order it in. It’s still really bad, I think I am on day 9 with it now. I’m just waiting on the pessaries being delivered to pharmacy. You’d think they would stock this stuff as many pregnant women have this issue, I literally rang around 6 pharmacies and nobody had it 😭

I will definitely be looking into taking some sort of probiotic as this has actually driven me to tears this time. Thanks again all
