Apologies for a long post

Good evening all, a newbie here. Let me give you a brief back story.

I came off my pill before Xmas, with no intention of getting pregnant. I do not remember getting a 'proper period' since coming off the pills.
Well, I've been waiting and waiting and a good few weeks/maybe a month ago, I found some red blood with some clear discharge on the tissue and thought my body was sorting itself out and my periods were returning. Well nothing happened after that...

Since then, all I've done is pee. I've always called myself a bit of a camel, because i could retain water so well, so peeing ALOT was not normal for me. I honestly thought I had a UTI. I work in a GP surgery and got a nurse to dip my pee which confirmed no UTI. I left it, thinking to myself "maybe it's all the caffeine I'm drinking. Maybe it's because I am thirsty so I'm peeing more"

I've also been going through a bit of a weight loss journey and have lost quite a bit of weight and now I have a healthy BMI, so again, I put my lack of period down to this.
But last night, I got undressed for a bath and I looked down and my stomach was hard and huge. I'd had pizza an hour before so I was bloated, but it looked different. And my wobbly bits sit different on my belly.

The nurse at work gave me a test today, and two lines popped up instantly. Full of shock, I cried with a few close colleagues. After work, I took a clear blue which says I am 3+ weeks which I knew was the case.
I am full of mixed emotions. My home situation isn't exactly great and I know I'll be bringing this baby up alone with the support of my family and close friends.

I am a newbie at all of this. I have never been pregnant. I do not have a clue lol.

So ladies...it does only take ONE time (which it did) to fall pregnant lol. And it seems you are very fertile once coming off the pill lol.

Symptoms include:

  • Peeing...alot. Like a UTI but none of the other normal symptoms which go with it.
  • Thirsty.

I've not felt sick but after todays shock, I do feel quite rotten this evening. No boob changes. I've had a terrible itchy nipple but this was a side effect when I was on my pill (spoke with the GP about this a year ago) I have inverted nipples, one worse than the other. Itchy to the point I want to rip it off.

Any advice welcome. And thank you :)

You work in a dr’s surgery and you didn’t realise that if you weren’t using contraception and were having unprotected sex you could get pregnant?

PlantLady89 · 22/02/2024 22:44

Congratulations OP! What a way to find out!

Starlight11111 · 22/02/2024 22:46

Forgot the advice part.. start taking your prenatal vitamins or at least folic acid and vitamin D! You should be able to self refer to maternity services by now at your local hospital to get in the system xx

wow....thank you for the positive post....

Welcome to MN - posters here tell you how it is rather than waste time with willowy language.

In any event, congratulations! As PP said, take your vitamins and well, enjoy the journey!

Chasingbaby2 · 22/02/2024 23:44

Congratulations OP! Not sure what exactly you are looking for advice on but I'd say go easy on yourself especially the first trimester the tiredness can really hit you.
Otherwise I'd be careful on mumsnet people can be truly vile when anonymous :(

Iamnotalemming · 22/02/2024 23:48

Congrats OP. As PP said, take your folic acid every day and take it easy the next few weeks and listen to your body. I felt v tired 1st trimester.

It sounds more like diabetes than pregnancy. I’d test for sugar in urine.
Congrats

Oh yesss you are SO fertile when you come off the pill like its crazy, my first 2 pregnancies were straight off the pill...its crazy how your body can do this, however congratulations, get your midwife appointment booked, and start taking vitamin D and folic acid thats the only thing i can tell you.

Regarding your home life, you dont need a partner to bring up a baby, a lot of peple around the world have done this alone, youw ill smash it, as long as you have some kind of support from family and friends you wont have to worry! X

I thought the same tbh. Very similar to DH’s T1 diagnosis last year (minus the positive test ofc!)

Rosesanddaisies1 · 23/02/2024 09:05

Sorry but your post is likely to upset a lot of the people on here who are having challenging fertility journeys. If you’re not on the pill and had sex, what do you expect.

Firsttimebabymama · 23/02/2024 09:12

Congratulations! Yes this is absolutely true.

I came off the pill (to plan pregnancy) and my doctor told me not to stress but it could take a year to get pregnant due to being on the pill so long.

So I thought I had plenty of time to TTC

Anyways, I missed my Friday morning pill and my conception date is that Friday :O

Good luck and start taking the folic acid :)
