Suppressive Acyclovir Treatment for Herpes

Hello, I was hoping to get some first hand experience where others have used suppressive acyclovir during the last month of pregnancy. I was diagnosed with GHSV1 about 8 years ago and haven’t had any known outbreaks since the primary infection. I may have had some mild outbreaks but it wasn’t obvious enough to tell. My doctor has prescribed 400mg of acyclovir 3 times a day from 36 weeks. I’ve been very hesitant taking the medication but ended up starting at 37+2 weeks.

I now feel like I’m getting tingly and itching down there and have a small bumpy rash on my hand.

Has anyone found that the antivirals triggered an outbreak?

Also can I check what dose people have taken?

TIA

I have GHSV2 and had had it maybe 4/5 years before my first pregnancy, had a random outbreak on my leg probably about 5 months pregnant and a couple of minor genital ones but nothing I needed treatment for. I also was prescribed and took the acyclovir 3 x daily from 36 weeks at 400mg. I had a c section in the end for other reasons but it definitely took the anxiety away. I'll also do it again this pregnancy even though I'm having an elective c section.
I found it stopped any outbreaks so it may be that one had already started for you before the antivirals and they should kick in soon. The hand one I would attribute to something else, an irritant or something unless that's a usual outbreak zone for you?
To put your mind at ease, my baby was totally healthy and perfectly developed. I was also visited by a pediatric Dr after the birth, which I wasn't expecting, who checked her over and asked if I had taken suppressive antivirals, I said yes and he was happy with that and went on his way.
