Hi all, I just joined today. I've seen the other posts about this topic. I think I understand that my probability is not good. I'm mostly looking for some support. I just had my first IV US today at 8 weeks + 3 days and there was no heartbeat. The doctor said that the embryo measured 5 mm, so much smaller than it should be. I've recently moved to Rome, Italy and I couldn't get an appointment until now, so this was my very first consultation. It's been overwhelming trying to navigate the system.

I recently got married recently at a late age and found out I'm expecting in mid Jan. I'm geriatric at 42 so I was surprised that this was happening. I was just about to get all my tests to check if I could actually have a baby. I got my hopes up and now trying to process the news. I will check my HCG tomorrow and then do another test in 1 week. I know my prognosis is not good, so just preparing myself for it.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi,

Just wanted to say that I'm sorry you are going through this. Could your dates be wrong at all?
In UK guidance a miscarriage is diagnosed when baby measures 7mm and a heartbeat cannot be found.
5mm would be about 6-7 weeks, and it's not uncommon to be unable to see the heartbeat at that gestation.
Will they rescan you in a week or 2?
Hope you are OK

Hi @CheeryBiscuit, thanks for the kind response. I will check the HCG test tomorrow or Monday whenever it comes out and then schedule another US. My dates can be wrong since I was not tracking ovulation. I found out I was positive on Jan 14.
