Trace of protein, worried. Anyone else?

I had to attend a&e today, as I threw up blood they said it's likely because of my acid reflux / indigestion and the fact I've been sick awfully throughout this pregnancy. I'm now 27 weeks.

I went to a&e and they tested my blood and did urine and blood pressure.

My blood pressure was 134/85 and my urine showed 'Trace of protein', it also showed signs of infection and dehydration. Also had increased discharge in knickers!

They didn't seem concerned about any of this but I've walked away worrying about pre eclampsia.

My kidney function etc was fine on the bloods.

They said my BP could've been slightly raised due to being in a&e and being worried about the blood.

Can infection/dehydration or discharge cause a trace of protein? I did the sample straight away and not mid-stream if this makes a diff.

I've got midwife tomorrow so will mention then and I'm sure she will recheck it all :)

Discharge definitely can. Speak to your midwife if you are worried.

It's just discharge contaminating the sample.

I am 18 weeks and have had protein with every midwife check and they haven't seemed concerned

Infection (UTI) can also give a trace of protein. You are correct that protein in your pee is associated with pre eclampsia but your bloods were normal and it would be unusually early to develop that (although not unheard of). Your midwife will be able to monitor you more closely, work out if you need treatment for a UTI (recommended in pregnancy) and hopefully reassure you :)

With my first pregnancy, I had a slight trace of protein but it was quite a concentrated wee/didn't really need to go so I think that was all.

it’ll be contaminated. my protein was 2++ and came back on the pcr as 8. i have back pain too so think it’s just a uti

I had a trace of protein at my 28 week midwife appointment but it had gone by my 31 week appointment. My blood pressure was on the low side so the midwife wasn't worried about pre-eclampsia. She said if it was still there at 31 weeks they would have checked for an infection. If you have other evidence of an infection anyway it's almost certainly due to that but I'm sure your midwife will keep a close eye on your blood pressure as well
