C-section scar in 2nd pregnancy - should it hurt?!

So exactly this! I am 16 weeks into my second pregnancy and my first is 18 months old. My scar is quite sore… is this because of the skin stretching again? I have horror visions of it tearing open. Anyone else have this? Help!!

Hey OP, congratulations on your second pregnancy 🙂

I had an elective C-section with my first (just over 21 months ago) and I'm currently 33 weeks gone with my second.

Now I'm in the third trimester I've definitely noticed that my external scar is more raised, red in colour and super itchy 😬 however I've noticed more discomfort internally, which I imagine is due to the scar tissue? So if baby kicks or moves in a certain way it can be very uncomfortable! I've found stretch mark oil helpful for the external itchiness but have had to take a few deep breaths when baby catches a sore spot on the inside...!

I believe they recommend leaving it two years after a C-section until becoming pregnant again to allow the scar tissue to properly heal, but this baby was a (happy!) surprise for us so we are rolling with it 😂

I have a feeling this baby is breech again (like my first!) so if that's the case (I'm having a scan next week) then I'll be having another elective C-section. Wishing you all the best with your second addition! X

I’m almost full term and my little one is 21 months. My c section scar feels like it’s being stretched and can be quite uncomfortable at times . It’s also been quite itchy nearer the end. Whenever I’ve had a scan, it can be a bit painful if the sonographer pushes down on the scar.
I checked in with my midwife and she said it’s just the skin and scar stretching and not to worry as my c section healed well from the first time.
She also said it was ideal to leave 2 years between pregnancies after a c section but also explained she’s never had anyone have an issue with it before.

Congrats. I'm 18 weeks but my DC1 is 8months and I'm showing quite early. My scar seems thicker and gets quite itchy. I'd mention pain to my midwife

I’ve had four c sections and never had pain from the scar during any of pregnancies. I’d bring it up for reassurance that all is ok.
