Hi everyone 👋,

Just after some advice really
Still in complete shock
Had the mirena coil no issues then last week completely exhausted struggled doing school run & after school activities etc I have 2 children a teenager (fun fun) and a 5 year old.

Was feeling very nauseous most days and just not myself so thinking I'm being crazy I did a test and to my disbelief a second line appears straight away I've done 3 pink dip type ones then I did a clearblue digital that said pregnant 1-2 weeks.

Doctor was baffled said its very rare it happens but had my coil removed expecting to bleed and miscarry as the doctor said it's a very high possibility but absolutely nothing .

I've continued to feel sick and gone off tea & coffee now what I'm struggling with is dates I did not get proper periods just the odd spotting here and there ??? Soo confused no idea how many weeks I could be ?
Anyone been in the same situation??

Thanks for reading
Maria xx

Hi,
My mum did going back 30-something years ago. She had the coil removed and miscarried.

The spotting you experienced was hormonal bleeding and most likely unrealated to 'period' bleeding. You could pay for a private dating scan to give you a rough idea of how far along you are (or maybe an NHS one if you explain the situation to your midwife). They can always adjust this at your 12w scan if needed.

Congratulations!

I did and didn't keep the baby but I know three other people who did, and were fine so please try not to panic. I would ask if you could be scanned on the NHS first, as surely they'd need an idea of when to book your 12 week scan etc, but failing that a private scan will give you a rough idea of dates x

Not me but someone I know. Baby is now a toddler and totally fine so it can work out. Tentative congratulations if this is good (albeit unexpected!) news.x

Yes my daughter with third baby.. same coil as you ...he's now 15... only 14 months between him and his 16 year old brother.
Good luck.

I did. Second trimester mc. It was very traumatic. It does sound as if some pregnancies are successful though.

My sister gave birth and her coil came out tangled in the afterbirth. It had slipped out of position. She didn't realise she was pregnant for almost 4 months as she had the coil. She thought her periods stopped because our Dad died and she was so upset. Turned out she was pregnant. It never harmed the baby who is now 37.

They can tell dates on the scan by measuring the baby. If NHS won't offer a scan just yet, you can go private (if you can afford it). I had had no periods for a long time when I got pregnant so there was no way to know when I had ovulated.

Wow thanks so much for your replies I honestly can't believe how common it is. We've now got over the shock of it all and are happy will book a private scan to find out dates
Thank you x
