First baby, eight weeks, I’ve not really had any symptoms?

I wonder if anyone could reassure me who has felt the same with their first baby (I know symptoms with second babies are often much less anyway!)

I am eight weeks today and my symptoms have never really got going. The faintest bit of nausea, e.g. I will retch after brushing my teeth. But even now I’m wondering if I’m doing that as more of an anticipatory response rather than actual nausea.

There’s never been any nausea through the day. I’m fine with smells. I’m able to eat all sorts of foods and flavours - no dry biscuits for me!

No cramps.

Sore boobs but I am on progesterone suppositories so that’s to be expected.

Perhaps a little bit more tired than normal but I think that’s because I’ve cut out all caffeine.

I did have a scan in week 7 and embryo was measuring spot on and the heartbeat looked fast and fine.

I am just bemused and a little worried that I don’t really feel pregnant. The lack of nausea and lack of sensitivity to strong smells and tastes is really worrying me.

I wondered if anyone else in their first pregnancy had experienced the same? Was everything alright?

You’re only 8 weeks. Enjoy it whilst it lasts. You could have more symptoms or you could be one of those women who breeze through pregnancy

Gosh just reading a thread where posters are saying their pregnancies with no or minimal morning sickness all led to miscarriage…

This was me, my symptoms did kick in one random Tuesday afternoon and that was it. DD born healthy. Every pregnancy Is very different, try not to worry

fancyfrogs · 09/02/2024 08:52

With both of my pregnancies I was the same. I often think wouldn't have necessarily known I was pregnant (apart from the positive tests, lack of periods and been trying of course!). I did get headaches/migraines a bit more frequently but that was it, definitely no nausea or smell sensitivity. 2 healthy babies and no issues in either pregnancy. Try not to worry and enjoy not feeling sick!

I still had morning sickness a week after I miscarried! Symptoms don't mean much, remember there are women who don't even know they are pregnant. At 8 weeks I wouldn't worry too much.

Thulpelly · 09/02/2024 09:02

I had no real symptoms OP, got a couple of spots in the 2nd trimester and used to get intense sudden hunger around that time too. Don’t worry!

Soubriquet · 09/02/2024 09:19

A friend of mine didn’t know she was pregnant till she was 6 months gone. Honestly, relax

Firsttimebabymama · 09/02/2024 10:48

Enjoy it whilst it lasts (and hopefully yours is like this all the way through)!

glassoven · 09/02/2024 10:56

I think my symptoms were only starting at 8 weeks (and then I felt constantly horrible until about 14 weeks).

JRTfan · 09/02/2024 12:51

A midwife told me symptoms are not a sign of a healthy pregnancy in fact people have strong symptoms and sadly still miscarry.
I'm 21 weeks and just had a perfect scan where baby was kicking and dancing away. I've had no symptoms at all since the beginning none whatsoever so please don't worry. I was convinced at early scans there would be nothing there so know how you feel but some people just don't get any symptoms..try and enjoy it.

DappledThings · 09/02/2024 12:52

I never had symptoms like that, no problems.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 09/02/2024 12:54

I had no symptoms at all except obviously no periods. Never felt sick, never really felt tired, in fact I never felt healthier.

Glittering1 · 09/02/2024 13:00

I have three children. Never had morning sickness on any of them. No aversion to smells or foods. Was a little tired on first pregnancy but other than that no symptoms. I really enjoyed being pregnant.

JaneLawrence · 09/02/2024 13:00

Until DC1 got big enough for me to feel him kicking, my only symptom was my periods stopping.

Similar story with DC2, with him my only real symptom - other than stopped periods - was that my sense of smell dramatically improved.

DC3 I actually did have the occasional bit of very mild nausea, but also a fair bit of spotting in the first trimester.

None of my pregnancies really felt real to me until I got the routine scans and the midwives confirmed that they could see a real live baby in there. And all 3 of those pregnancies resulted in a live baby.

DelurkingAJ · 09/02/2024 13:02

I had no symptoms at all (even had ‘periods’) until I was about 12 weeks with both my pregnancies (this resulted in DS1’s 12 week scan being converted into a 20 week scan as my dates were so wrong). Two medically very boring pregnancies followed by two healthy boys who arrived at 42 and 41 weeks under their own steam.

newmomaboutthreads · 09/02/2024 13:15

I had no symptoms at all throughout my last pregnancy. I wouldn't have known I was pregnant apart from no period, the belly and the kicking at 26weeks.
Conversely I had lots of symptoms sore boobs, nausea, tiredness and that ended in an early misscarriage at 10 weeks.
I didn't believe anyone when they said symptoms don't mean anything though, but they truly don't xxx

Enjoy your pregnancy

MotherOfVizslas · 09/02/2024 13:18

I never had any symptoms with my first pregnancy. He's 11 now! In all likelihood you'll be fine❤️

AllBlackEverything · 09/02/2024 13:58

I've never had symptoms of pregnancy (other than no periods & a bump) until the final stages, heartburn, fluid retention etc at about 8 months.

@WhiteDuvet I'm 17 weeks and I've never had any symptoms.
Like you , I have really bad anxiety thinking something is going to go wrong but fingers crossed, all has been fine so far. Last saw baby two weeks ago.
I think alot of my anxiety is due to going through ivf and putting pressure on myself for things to work out.
My midwife said not every woman has symptoms and symptoms themselves are absolutely no indication of a healthy viable pregnancy

I never experienced morning sickness with either of my kids and had minimal symptoms in the first trimester, mostly just exhaustion. Everyone's body is different.

WhiteDuvet · 11/02/2024 10:30

Thanks all. Still no nausea at all, it’s so strange! I really do hope it’s not a bad sign.

Honestly it's not that strange. Loads of us never have any nausea. Doesn't mean anything is likely to be wrong.

MissRabbitIsABoss · 11/02/2024 10:38

My first pregnancy was pretty much the same. Very little of anything, I had zero nausea, bit of heartburn but bad nighttime legs cramps once 5 months hit. Enjoy while it lasts, and I hope it lasts to 9 months!

JustJessi · 11/02/2024 10:43

First pregnancy, I didn’t have any symptoms at all; baby was a girl.

Second pregnancy, lots of nausea, sickness and tiredness; baby was a boy!

I did a lot of googling about this when I was pregnant with DC1 and also worried about the lack of morning sickness, and if I remember right, about a quarter of women with healthy pregnancies don’t get morning sickness.

So a lack of nausea isn’t something to get too worried over.
