Antenatal classes: NCT vs Bump and Baby?

This is my first baby.

I'm looking at antenatal classes to meet other local mums as much as learn about things.

Bump and Baby is a bit more convenient for me but I've never heard of it - anyone have any experience of them?

NCT is more established and known. Seen lots of adverts on social media for bump and baby but didn't trust it to go with them.

We did bump and baby. Run by experienced midwives who know their stuff. Seemed to cover what it needed to.

We chose it over NCT because less of a focus on "natural birth" and was more convenient time wise. The WhatsApp group for the mums is very active and I really value the connections I've made (which was my primary reason for antenatal classes anyway).

I loved Bump and Baby. NCT were very pushy and came across as quite haughty on the phone (but I was full of hormones, so who knows!).

Another person who did Bump and Baby (2017) - you’re buying friends essentially. The ones I bought were worth the initial outlay 😂😂

Bump and Baby all the way.

We went with them for a few reasons:

  • NCT classes near us were only held on full days over the weekend whereas B&B was in the evening over a few weeks.
  • Less focus on 'natural birth' and pro informed consent etc. etc.
  • Cheaper
  • Very good at organising the social side of things. They set up a WhatsApp group and an in person meet up (without the course tutor) after the classes have ended.

Nearly 2 years on, we are still in almost daily contact and meet up about once a week or so. Best money I've ever spent.

We did Bump and Baby online in 2020. It was fine but due to lockdown we could't meet anyone from the class until the babies were all six months old. They were all nice enough but none of us really clicked with each other so I don't know any of them anymore.

We did Bump and Baby 2 years ago and loved it. The midwives who lead the sessions were so lovely, and they cover everything, including C Sections and all pain relief. They did a topic on breastfeeding and then asked us to raise our hands if we were breastfed and said that you would never know who was breastfed and who wasn’t, so ultimately it doesn’t matter, as long as baby is fed. And I liked that they weren’t pushing “breast is best”. I’m actually gutted I won’t get to do these classes again 😢😂
