Ttc after combined pill experiences

Hello! I just wondered if anyone could share their experiences ttc after coming off the combined pill?

I came off 2nd Jan, had withdrawal bleed 6 Jan and no sign of period yet. Week of 22nd Jan I had some cramping, bloating/gas and sore nipples. This week I have tender boobs.

I had a BFN yesterday but technically would be due AF today and wonder whether I could have ovulated late?

I just wondered if anyone concieved first month off pill and what that was like?

Sorry no advice on conceiving quickly when coming off the pill. I had all the same symptoms as you and hoped I was pregnant but the gp promptly reminded me that period and pregnancy symptoms are very similar and that it was most likely period symtoms I was experiencing. Sadly for me it took 6 months for my period to return to some sort of normal.
I had my withdrawal bleed, then a period about 35 days later. After that sometimes the period would show up at 20 days and some months wouldn’t show up at all.
I was told just to keep doing a pregnancy test and return if it had not settled by 6 months.

I really hope it works out for you but please remember that lots of women don’t fall pregnant on the first cycle so don’t let it get to you too much if the tests are negative.

I had the same symptoms as you the first month I came off the pill, was convinced I was pregnant! I wasn’t but it did happen 2 months later ☺️

Thanks all! Sounds like the majority of the time it can take a while for our bodies to adjust. Appreciate you sharing your experiences as I know two people who concieved their first month coming off the pill but I know people talk more openly how quickly they concieved than those who didnt so I imagine it really does differ!

Just wish I came off it sooner before ttc as the GP and guidance always so strict with not missing a pill etc but it isn't as known what it is like coming off. Fingers crossed 🤞😊

It took about 6 months to conceive my daughter after coming off the pill, it was instant with this pregnancy when having the coil out. I would look at taking maca root as that is good for restoring your hormone levels, as well as the conception vitamins. Good luck 💖

I came off the pill and had withdrawal bleed, then had first proper period about 6 weeks after coming off the pill so would have ovulated about 4 weeks after coming off the pill.

I got pregnant 3 months after coming off the pill.

Good luck!

@TryingForBabyFirstTime I feel like I'm ovulating at the moment, no period pains but sore boobs and sharp pain in ovaries. So weird being out of wack with AF when it's been so regimented all these years on the pill! Thanks for sharing x

I was on the combined pill for 18 years, came off it last March - my periods came back pretty much like clockwork although my first one was incredibly painful (thankfully it hasn't been since, must have just been my body getting used to things again after such a long time). We waited for a cycle before starting TTC to let things regulate and then conceived on the 4th cycle trying, which unfortunately ended in a loss.

You might find it helpful to use ovulation tests to help you understand what's going on with your cycle - I didn't use them until after my miscarriage but have found them really useful and they've helped me conceive this time.

It took over a year for my cycles to return to normal after stopping the pill, they were still fairly irregular when I did conceive so I found the ovulation strips really helpful. I had a withdrawal bleed in May then didn’t get another period until July, after that my cycles varied between 28 and 40 days. When I got pg a year or so later they were becoming more regular.

After I did ovulate I got sore boobs/bloating etc almost straight away for the two weeks until AF arrived, it was no different when I got pregnant.

Should add we weren’t ttc for the full year, I stopped the pill in readiness for after our wedding but used condoms. After actively ttc using the ovulation strips etc it took about 4 cycles.

LAPBx · 06/02/2024 20:21

My AF started today so I'm glad as it means I can start using ovulation strips etc and get into a rhythm, thanks for the recommendations completely new to this and fingers crossed over next few cycles! 😊

I got pregnant the second month after coming off the combined pill, which was the month we properly tried.

@LAPBx Good luck!
