Started yesterday 36+4wks. I wipe a light brown discharge that smells of blood and there was a chunk in the toilet bowl. Been having cramping and back pain. The amount hasn't increased and for every toilet trip since there has been this stuff when I wipe. I've had pads on to monitor. Only had a small amount of this light brown on it. Any one know what this could be?

Looks like your mucus plug is coming away?

Lizzieregina · 05/02/2024 04:43

I agree. And the back pain and cramping could be early labour.

Sorry to sound so ignorant, but Early labour meaning soonish?

Dd1 - back pain on the Sat, born on Tues
Dd2 - back pain on the Sun, exam on Wednesday, few cm dilated and then born on Thurs

Back pain didn’t last though - it was almost as if that was the start, then paused, then started again to know I was in active labour

Lizzieregina · 05/02/2024 04:52

Well my experience, and they’re all different, was that when I started labour, it felt like I was getting my period. When I woke up I thought “oh I’m getting my period, oh wait, I’m pregnant!”

So I had gentle crampy feeling and my back was a bit sore. For my first baby that started around 6.30am and it definitely felt like pain coming and going about every 10 mins.

Then mid afternoon it stopped for a couple of hours, so I assumed it was not labour. Then late evening it started again and definitely felt more like contractions then. More painful and more defined.

But my son wasn’t born till 8pm the following evening, so a long drawn out affair. From crampy feeling to baby was 38 hours.

I never saw the mucous plug thing until my 3rd baby!

It could be your mucas plug that comes away before labour.
I had something similar that turned out to be an infection that needed antibiotics so it could be different things.

If the pain/cramps are bad or you’re worried please get in touch with the antenatal unit, I’m sure they can help and advise :)

I would also contact your midwife/maternity triage for advice too. With you being 36+4

ThemysteriousH · 06/02/2024 18:02

How are you OP?

How are you OP?

I am fine thank you for asking. No sign of little one coming sadly. No more cramping or discharge. Assuming it was from where midwife was digging into my bump trying to see if baby was head down.
