24 weeks baby movement

Hi, I'm exactly 24 weeks and don't see my midwife for another 2 weeks. I think I can feel my baby moving but I'm a first time mum so I don't have any previous experience.

I feel what I would describe as strong muscle twitches in my lower abdomen. Sometimes it comes from behind my belly button but mostly either side of the lower parts.

I only tend to feel this when I lie in bed on a morning. Is this normal? Mostly during the day while I'm working at my desk etc I feel nothing. To the point that sometimes I don't even feel pregnant. I have had 3 previous early losses so I'm sure I'm just overly worried but just some reassurance that at 24 weeks I won't feel her all day would be nice!

It’s very normal. It can take up to 24 weeks to feel any sort of movement and you might not feel regular movement until 28 weeks.

Yeah my initial movements felt like little twitchy muscle spasms down low and to the right! Now he feels like he’s trying to kick his way out ahaha! Do you know where your placenta is lying? That can have a big impact on what and where you feel movement! It’s lovely when you feel then rattling about a bit more 🤣

This sounds about right, I never had the bubbling feeling people talk about, but I do have anterior placenta so maybe thats why? I didnt feel anything at all until 21 ish weeks? But yes, even now that he is actively kicking at 27, a feeling like a muscle twitch is what would describe it as (when its not a very active foot trying to make an escape) 💕

When I wasnt sure, Id lay my hand flat and put a bit of pressure on the area to see if I could feel it, which I could then make out quite well.

Also my movements still vary massively day to day so wouldn’t worry about not having a pattern of movements yet! Mine has mad raves where I can see him rolling around in there and then I don’t feel him for ages! I actually often see him more than I can feel him unless he’s giving me the big boots!

Edited

Yesterday I had the odd light kick here or there, today hes not bloody stopped, its like hes making a bid for freedom via my ribs.

That sounds a lot like me a couple of weeks ago (am 27 weeks now) - definitely has picked up pace/strength since then, I am sure yours will too. Even now it does vary, and like you say the most of it is when I am lying down!

Couggstar123 · 01/02/2024 16:19

Yeah I find the same, he’ll have a quieter day and then the next day he is a little thug in there! He likes to keep me on my toes already 🤣 I have had quite an anxiety ridden pregnancy so am glad I’m managing to not become fixated on movement! I think the 20 weeks scan brought me some zen! ✌🏼

Thank you all so much you've definitely eased a worried mind ☺️
