Toxoplasmosis fear

On holiday in Portugal in my first trimester and had a chicken curry in a restaurant yesterday.

Today my stomach is upset (diarrhoea - sorry TMI) from the food (im not normally sensitive to spicy food) and I’m really paranoid I got toxaplasmosis from the chicken being undercooked (as this might have made me slightly Ill) - I assumed any meat would be cooked properly in a restaurant but I remember looking at the time and being paranoid it was a bit pink (it was drumstick type chicken) - but I am always paranoid with chicken and never know what it’s supposed to look like (I’m always too scared to cook it myself)!

what are the chances I’ve got toxaplasmosis? I’m worried because there’s no sure way of telling or testing for it but it could seriously affect the baby

It’s unlikely you have toxoplasmosis. It’s possible the chicken was a bit undercooked but equally, the meat close to the bone often can look a bit pink or brown so it may just be coincidence that you now have an upset stomach. I had food poisoning earlier in my pregnancy and spoke to the EPU to check there were no risks to the baby. They told me that baby is very well protected as the placenta filters out everything bad, and you would have to be unwell to the point of hospitalisation before there would be any risk to the baby. Hope you’re feeling better soon and try not to worry!
