Help please waters breaking

Hi just looking to see if anyone has been in a similar situation. Last night I was on the sofa and all of a sudden my knickers and pjs were wet - got up and smelt it and no smell definitely not urine

came to MAU and tested positive for my waters breaking (but faint positive) but due to the doctor not seeing any fluid and then leaving the hospital as she felt ill another doctor asked to redo the test. I refused as I was in a lot of pain due to existing cervical erosion and I was bleeding and I had been told by the midwife If they did the test again while I was bleeding it could create a false positive. The same midwife has confirmed the original swab did not have any blood on it.

due to the positive test they have admitted me and I am on antibiotics but I think they will want to do the swab test again today which I am really going to struggle with. Does anyone know if I have any other options? I am also not convinced it was a false positive it was a definite gush if clear liquid and I have been having a lot
of pressure and back ache and I am concerned that if it comes back negative today I will stop getting the antibiotics which could lead to an infection for me or the baby

sorry if this reads a bit garbled

Thanks all. I am going to be staying in hospital as my heart rate is too high for them to let me leave but have been very lucky that I have been given a private room so I can rest - once again thanks all for your help at what has been a very lonely and scary time

Isn't your husband with you?

TheShellBeach · 29/01/2024 11:34

How are you today, OP?

Lillygolightly · 29/01/2024 11:51

Hi @ChateauProvence I hope you have managed some rest, and hope that now it’s Monday things are more in hand with the hospital and that they have discussed a plan of action with you.

@BigBadBun i just wanted to send my thoughts to you, having had some experience myself I think your advice to the OP has been bang on! 💐

BigBadBun · 29/01/2024 13:16

Thank you for your kind message @Lilygolightly. Hope @ChateauProvence is doing okay.

Hi, didn't just want to read and run. With both my pregnancies, my waters broke but didn't go into active labour. First at 37+5, went to hospital, diagnosed with Strep B, had steroids and then a section (footling breech) at 38 weeks. With my second, waters broke at 35+6, and when I went into hospital I was bleeding slightly so they did a section the next day at 36 weeks as they were worried about infection with their being blood.
Keep pushing to get some action, you shouldn't just be left bleeding if your waters have gone.
Hoping you are ok and have a healthy baby by now anyway 🥰

Hi all, still no signs of labour so I am booked in for a c section in the morning unless things start before then! Just want praying everything goes ok. Am hoping I’m not too nervous to sleep tonight - I just want my baby in my arms safely now

Wishing you a lovely gentle c-section OP, it may not have been your original plan but I would see this in a positive - if you’ve had issues with your cervix previously this route might be a great option for you and you’ll soon have you LO in arms!! 💐

Just for anyone else reading, I had the swab once at around 30 weeks which was so uncomfortable but again a few nights ago at full term and it wasn’t as uncomfortable at all. I have had 22mm removed via LLETZ and then cervical erosion too so I totally understand OPs discomfort with having this but I do think discomfort can be down to the nurse and also anxiety makes me shrivel up and makes it way harder to do.

This is my first and my plan is I’ll try for vaginal birth but if we get any issues along the way with my cervix not dilating I’ll opt for a c-sec rather than a sweep on induction because the medical trauma I have from previous examinations when I was told I had cervical erosion.

Hi op, hope all went well today x

Our healthy little girl was delivered yesterday morning via c section - baby became transverse during the night and when they opened me up there wasn’t much fluid left so definitely made the right decision for me and the baby. I am in love 🩷
