Hi, I have a DS who will just have turned 5 when DC is born. I feel like I'm out of the loop and things must have changed a lot in the last 5 years. Can anybody recommended their must have baby items they couldn't be without? TIA

A decent sling, I had an ergo baby and somewhere safe to put the baby for a few minutes. I had a nuno travel cot.

For us it's been...

If bottle fed, a Nuby Rapid Cool
A anti roll changing Matt
A next to me
A white noise machine (Tommy tippee do one which is called a dream maker and also a red light. Life saver for us!
A Rockit

I second a sling. If there's a sling library near you, they can recommend and lend you one.

I had an inexpensive touch lamp from amazon that was great for night feeds. It had a nice dim light.

Sleeping bags. I used grobags to start and then standard supermarket ones.

Snoozeshade for pram naps, especially on a sunny day.

Not sure if any of these things are new!

Nosefrida snot sucker 👌🏻 also tommee tippe prep machine

If you’re potentially having a c-section a Snugglebundl. Life saver for the first couple of nights in hospital when nobody seems to be around to help pass baby across for feeds.

I’d only agree with these two on that list…

If bottle fed, a Nuby Rapid Cool
A white noise machine (we had dream egg)

I hated the next to me as our bedroom was carpeted so it wouldn’t roll and I was just boxed in 🥴

I’d add

  • Nose sucker from frida baby
  • bjorn bouncer and / or electric vibrating bouncer (we got a cheap Fischer price one it was a smash hit with every baby placed in it)
  • black out curtains (tommy
tippee do portable ones good for holidays or visiting friends / family)
  • snoozeshade for pram in summer
  • Doona is amazing if you can get a 2nd hand one or borrow one.
  • lightweight pram like yoyo, Leclerc or butterfly

I agree re sling. Also nappy bin. Rest is preference, IMO.
