Bleeding at week 5 but still pregnant?

Hi!

Just after advice on when to book an early scan? I wasn’t going to bother but I’ve had some bleeding today. A bit more than just spotting but not AF-levels. I’ve also had an increase in cramps, which feel very much like period cramps.

I’ve just taken a clear blue digital and it’s saying 2-3 weeks pregnant, which is in line with what I’d expect given the previous clear blue test said 1-2 weeks 5 days ago. Flo says I am 5 weeks today but I didn’t track ovulation so it may have been a bit later than day 14. I didn’t get a Vvfl until CD29 and then a proper positive on Day 30, followed by the clear blue 1-2 weeks on Day 31. I vary between 27-33 day cycles.

Would next Sunday be too early for a 6 week scan? I’m nervous that the bleeding and cramps might mean this pregnancy isn’t going to continue. I’ve had quite a lot of nausea this week, as well as really sore boobs and tiredness - so I was so surprised to see the blood this evening, and then get the cramps, as it all felt like it was going well.

Thank you.

I'd go for 7 weeks, I've had bleeding at 5 weeks 3 time, twice miscarried, once all fine, had bleeding with her again at 7 weeks but nothing after, on the 7 week scan could see heartbeat. Fingers crossed for you x

I had bleeding at the start of mine and was told by A&M’s that if it light pink it’s fine but if there are clots and dark period like blood then to go back….it did stop after a few days tho and everything was ok got two healthy 6 months old twins

Also just realised you haven't mentioned if you've spoken to anyone, I'd ring the community midwives for advice first.

Thank you both! It was dark, rather than light pink. But not as ‘bloody’ and wet as AF would be. A bit drier if that makes sense?! Not enough of it to expect clots.

I haven’t yet self-referred to the midwives. I have told my GP earlier this week though. I will self-refer by phone tomorrow and ask for their advice.

Spoke to the midwives and they weren’t concerned. Said it sounds like implantation bleeding as it’s not painful or bright red or lots of it. Will keep an eye on it, but going to book an early scan for when Flo thinks I’m 7 weeks.

@RosiePH so glad it’s nothing to worry about

I agree with other posters I’d say hold off on a scan under 7-8 weeks, baby is so tiny at that stage and usually places recommend waiting until 7-8 weeks (round where we are anyway) because due to ovulation dates/implantation dates you could be further behind than you thought, so if you go at 7/8 weeks and are behind a week you would still likely see a heartbeat, whereas if you go at dot on 6 weeks and are a week behind then the scan will be inconclusive and won’t provide any reassurance x
