High level of hcg, congratulations.

Thank you - it all seems surreal. I think i am 4 weeks.

first time pregnancy. should I test again tomorrow just to be sure? I have self reffered to a maternity ward on NHS website. DH is away and i am itching to tell someone!

No idea what my next steps should be. Any tips are welcome

I'm a serial tester, love seeing the 2 lines!

If you've self referred you just need to wait for midwife to get in touch to arrange your booking in visit, in my trust its normally about 8/10 weeks when you are first seen, I have a scan at 6 weeks just to make sure it's in the correct place as I've had a previous ectopic.

Are you already taking folic acid/pregncare or similar?

Yes been taking folic acid 400 mg for a while and also have pregnacare but havent started that yet.

Is your 6 week scan private? Theres so much to get your head around. I cant believe it. Im going to have a baby!!

Congratulations!
People test every day on internet cheapies so they can see the line progressing and getting darker. Darker than control is good!

I’d also vote for getting an early reassurance scan if funds allow. 12 weeks is far too long to wait for a scan!

xxmyheartxx · 24/01/2024 17:37

I have my scan at the early pregnancy unit due to the ectopic though I normally have a private scan or 2 before the 12 weeks scan as well.

Thank you youre all so lovely. Any idea how much the private scan is? I would be inclined to do that.

Apart from taking folic acid, is there anything else I should be doing? I havent told anyone yet and im itching to.

12 weeks is way too long. I dont think i can hold out until then.

Is that when the first scans are done?

Congratulations! 12w scan is the earliest with NHS but you can go for a private one at around 7 weeks onwards. I found one for my town on Google map by searching 'pregnancy scan'. I think I paid around £59 but that was in 2021.

Congratulations! 💞

A high HCG level sometimes indicates twins!

Beentheredonethat123 · 24/01/2024 18:05

Congratulations!
I used the boots ones too, then loads of other brands, just to keep looking at those lines 🤣🤣🤣.

Congratulations that’s a dye stealer. Make sure you are taking folic acid and Vitamin D as a minimum. Once you have referred to the midwives there’s really not much else to do, it’s really anticlimactic. Limit sugar intake, keep caffeine intake low (2 cups of coffee a day), eat well if you can but if nausea and sickness kicks in that can be hard. If you go for a private scan I’d wait until 7-8 weeks so you’ll see something.

I was truly worried as the instructions said the control line is usually darker. And T line is faint. Thankyou - ive looked into a private scan and have some local to me. Does £75/80 sound about right to you?

Congratulations! I went for a scan at 8 weeks last time as I'd read you should definitely see a heartbeat then. I was worried I'd go earlier and there would be no heartbeat and then I'd worry. Got one booked for 8 weeks for this pregnancy too as I only found out recently as well! My mum is visiting this weekend and don't know how I'll keep it from her!

I will be 5 weeks on Saturday so very early days

mimiku · 24/01/2024 21:32

Happened with my middle and youngest, I would have been about 5 weeks when I tested with them. Not twins in my case! Congrats 💐

LauderSyme · 24/01/2024 21:38

Ooh how exciting, so many creative ways to break the news to dh!

Whoopsadoodle · 24/01/2024 21:39

Yes that sounds about the right price for an early scan. congratulations again, and how fun thinking how to tell your partner!
