I'm about 24 weeks and this pregnancy has given me a big sweet tooth that I don't normally have. I did a long (2 years) and pretty successful diet which I didn't find too challenging and got me down from about 80 kg to about 63 pre pregnancy. I said to myself I'd try not to put on too much but the hormones are apparently very powerful. I look at a hob nob these days and I'm gone. It's not that I don't have a healthy appetite for veg and protein too, its just that now I want to eat dinner and THEN a bowl of cereal.

Not ideal. Anyone got ideas for foods or drinks that are low calorie but take the edge off a sugar and fat craving?

You could try the 90 cal fibre one bars. Lots of flavours! But I’m sure someone will have something to say about processed food in pregnancy so I will couple it but saying you could make a batch of oat choc chip banana muffins which would be a good source of fibre and will keep in a Tupperware! (Personally I’d go for the fibre one for ease haha)

Hot choc?

If cereal is your thing you could try give a go to simple flavoured milk. I’ve been having the Muller banana milk. Much less calories than cereal. You could also buy some sweet apples ( like golden delicious) and have one before meal and one after the meal. You could also give actimel a go. Have one after a meal.
or you can try having ripe bananas with some low sugar yoghurt. I’m fairly certain bananas, even when they are very ripe-will not be as bad as a cereal after a meal.

No food tips but I recommend breastfeeding as a good way to burn off calories once the baby arrives, I could eat cake everyday whilst feeding and still lost weight 😄

MamaBearsss · 24/01/2024 17:36

I didn’t lose weight while breastfeeding! It was only when I stopped

These are all excellent ideas, thanks. Specially the milkshakes and bananas.

Unfortunately chocolate is my downfall, I do love hot chocolate.. on top of all the other food!

I'm not safe in a sweets aisle! I realised yesterday I ate a pain au chocolat for breakfast, had a chocolate cookie as a pre lunch "snack" and then drank lemonade with lunch. I held out for no dessert after dinner but by 11pm my chocolate craving had won. Sigh
