When to stop taking aspirin?

I'm on 150mg of aspirin and have been since 12 weeks. I'm now 36+2 weeks and wondered when I should stop taking it?

My midwife said to take it until delivery, however, on majority of the NHS websites it says until 36 weeks. I did question this with my midwife and she said the advice changes all of the time.

What did you do?

For context, I'm taking it due to high blood pressure in my previous pregnancies and PPH.

I carried on taking mine until I went into hospital to be induced at 37 weeks. Noone told me to stop so I didn't think about it!

I took mine until induction at 42 weeks x

Initially midwife said to take till 36 weeks, consultant has said take till delivery!

Bozbiza · 23/01/2024 20:47

Consultant and midwife both told me to stop at 36 weeks

I had a baby 5 weeks ago and was also told to take it until delivery.

I took it up until I was induced at 39 weeks which is what my consultant advised

I'd take it following the information the medical professional had given me tbh.

If you're under consultant care, ask if they can confirm - if you're not seeing a consultant, then check with your midwife. My midwife at booking said I should take it until 36 weeks, but the consultant said at my first appointment that because of my risk factor I should take it up to delivery. That seems to suggest that people need to stop at different points depending on why they are taking it.

I was told to stop taking it at 36 weeks but I would definitely go with what your midwife has said as they will be following guidance from your trust

2 separate midwifes and consultant said stop at 36 weeks. There is also increased risk of bleeding if you take it till birth - won't happen to everyone but the risk is increased.

With my first I took it to 36 weeks as advised. With my second I carried on until the birth as advised. No issues
